Following Sundays announcement that Michail Antonio has been unable to agree terms on a new short term contract with West Ham, the 35 year old is now set to become a free agent on the 30th June. A number of clubs have already shown interest in the striker, with some reports indicating that Everton and several teams in the MLS are closely monitoring the situation.

Antonio has been working towards a return to full fitness after suffering a broken leg in a car crash six months ago. He was recently called up to the Jamaica national team by Steve McClaren  for the upcoming Gold Cup. If he can prove his fitness, a move elsewhere remains a strong possibility.
David Moyes is a big fan of the striker and has  previously shown his faith in the player when at West Ham -turning down the chance to sign Julian Alvarez in favour of keeping Antonio as his main forward. He also rebuffed interest from Wolves in 2023, stating: “We want him here, we want him playing well, we want him scoring goals, and we’re happy have him.”
With Dominic Calvert Lewin expected to leave Everton on a free transfer after rejecting a new contract offer, Moyes is exploring cost effective options, making Antonio a potential short term option.

Antonio – Reunited with Moyes for short term solution?

Meanwhile, Graham Potter has not ruled out tabling a revised contract offer for Antonio, though any move would depend on the striker proving his fitness and ability to perform at Premier League level, especially as West Ham look to reduce their wage bill.
Antonio recently shared an inspirational comeback video on his instagram, and with his experience and proven track record, he is unlikely to be short of suitors.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

@Reg Gates. I think the 68 years of supporting Everton has badly affected your ability to write properly!

However you are a very funny man in saying that Moyes is not going to be with you very long. Sorry, how long was he with you for his first term as manager?

Just wondering, does Michail still have a valid driver licence? I see that Paul Taylor posted that perhaps West Ham (or Everton) need to provide a chauffeur for him, which is a cheeky but possibly wise suggestion. Michail needs to be seriously advised to stay away from driving fast cars. We love him as he is, very fortunately still in one piece!

  • Paul Taylor says:

Great for both parties, just need to provide a chauffeur and wrap him up in cotton wool between matches! Great servant and some memorable contributions but he’s no longer PL standard. Good descion now let’s find a decent replacement, Embolo, I don’t think so maybe four year’s ago.
