Moyes facing Diop dilemma

By Hughie Southon

David Moyes continues to face an Issa Diop dilemma with Fulham reportedly offering £15 million for the central defender.

Nayef Aguerd is set to be out until November after undergoing ankle surgery sustained in a pre-season game against Rangers.

But with Kurt Zouma, Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna available plus Ben Johnson available to play in the position there remains a temptation to cash in now although the likelihood is that January window is the bigger possibility.

Issa’s  contract runs out in June 2023 and with the club having a year’s option they are likely to get much the same price next season as this should they decide to do a deal.

The Athletic is reporting that the Cottagers have lodged the £15 million offer for the Hammers defender which is £3 million up on the first offer.

With Moyes having options in the position is would be more than possible that he could accept a deal for the player.

  1. Not sure why there is a dilemna Diop isn’t deemed good enough, get the money in while he is in demand, no other club bid for him as far as we are aware. It will be one less thing for Moyes to worry about then maybe he will pull his finger out and get the other deals done. Onana and a left back, he has wasted weeks or more on Kostic when he could have gone all in for Raum, supposedly he has distanced himself from Angelino and Weigl so there are two potential names out of the frame. There is a kid at Az Alkmar called Wijnald who would be perfect for our system, like an unrefined Raum, young, aggressive, press resistant, lightning speed and accurate crosser of the ball, not sure why we aren’t looking at him as an option and should be affordable. Zielinski feels like another time wasting exercise even though he would probably be huge for us if he signed another press resistant player that is very creative, if salary is the problem what I would say to Moyes is if I want less expensive things I don’t go shopping in Harrods, if I do I know I am going to have to pay more.
