Moyes’ firm stance on rearranged games

David Moyes has agreed with Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl over the issue of January signings playing in rearranged Premier League games.

The Saints boss has insisted that those players who are acquired in the winter window should not be allowed to play in games that have been rescheduled due to COVID-19.

And Moyes has given his opinion on the matter at his pre-Leeds press conference ahead of this weekend’s third-round FA Cup tie.

Speaking to Football.London, he said: “I totally agree with that.”

The Hammers boss has also issued an update on the levels of COVID within the Hammers camp as the club prepare for a busy week of action.

First of all, the Irons will play Leeds in the FA Cup before taking on Norwich in the league, and then playing Marcelo Bielsa’s side again in the top-flight next weekend.

And it doesn’t seem as though there is all that much danger of the Irons requesting any sort of postponement.

He added: “I’ve no idea what any other clubs are doing, I just know that we’ve got players ready and we’ve been prepared to play in every game so far this season.

“We’ve got some COVID in the camp like everybody else, be that players or staff, but we’re trying to play the games and if we’re asked to do so, we will do.

“To keep things as correct as it could be, teams might use the transfer window to strengthen, and teams who have missed three or four games might bring a bigger squad in. That wouldn’t be correct because at the moment we’ve all got to deal with the same things.

“We have our players ready and have been prepared to play every game this season, thankfully we have been pretty good with covid we have a few cases in the camp whet5her it be players or staff but we are trying to play the games.”
