Moyes hails rival

David Moyes has hailed Everton boss Rafa Benitez ahead of this weekend’s meeting between the two sides.

Now that the international break is over, Premier League football will resume this weekend, with the Hammers travelling to Merseyside to take on the Toffees at Goodison Park.

Everton have enjoyed an excellent start to the season and are currently fifth, three points ahead of the Hammers, who are ninth.

Benitez, of course, has strong links to Liverpool, having won the Champions League with the club, but he appears to be winning over supporters at Goodison Park with a fast, free-flowing brand of football.

Indeed, they headed into the international break on the back of an impressive 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford, while the Irons lost 2-1 to Brentford.

And Moyes has an immense amount of respect for Benitez as the pair prepare to lock horns this weekend in a clash that could have major implications for the European race.

Speaking ahead of the game, Moyes said, per The Independent“Everton are a really big club and because of that, I think it is a big game.

“I have great respect for Rafa because of the level of clubs he’s managed, he did an exceptional job at Liverpool, made it really difficult for me when I was manager at Everton, was very hard to get above them.

“Thankfully by the end of my time at Everton we had got above them a couple of times, but he’s been a terrific manager. You don’t manage the clubs that Rafa has managed if you’re not very experienced and good at your job.”
