Moyes: Hammers regulars let me down

David Moyes believes that West Ham’s core of players that were also at the club last season let him down against Everton.

The Irons lost 1-0 at Goodison Park and head into the relegation zone languishing in the bottom three, having only won one of their seven games thus far.

Only two summer signings started the game on Merseyside, as Thilo Kehrer played in defence and Lucas Paqueta played in attacking midfield.

And Moyes felt that the players he is familiar with were the worst culprits today in a genuinely dreadful performance at times.

Speaking after the game to Sky, as per BBC Sport, he said: “We had a game on Thursday night and we are trying to put new players in and find out a bit about them. But it was mainly the players I know about that let me down today with play overall.

“The players who played last year are down on their level as well. We have shown signs we were getting back to it but I don’t think we did today. When we got anything in the final third it was nearly always the wrong decision. We probably missed a few big chances.

“We have to keep going and keep putting the work in, the players have responded well in the last two or three years and there is no reason they cannot reach those heights again. If you’re not scoring lots of goals you have to make sure you are a really good defensive team. We have got a good enough team but we need to start showing it, that’s for sure.”

Moyes also felt that the Irons were disappointing with the ball and simply surrendered possession too often to be able to take all three points.

He added: “I think we didn’t deserve anything because of how we played in the first half. But in the end we deserved a point.

“It was more to do with how we didn’t perform. We didn’t do well enough with the ball, a lot of poor decisions in the final third. When we had a couple of half-sniffs towards the end we couldn’t take them.”

The Hammers will not be back in action now until October, when they take on Wolves after the international break.

  1. Well heres a thought Moyes try using some of the players on the bench…Downes for Soucek Benny for Fornals heaven forbid Scamacca and Antonio upfront together….look at Vlasic played in his right position suddenly the 5th best player in Europe funny that eh Moyes…..He calls himself a winner lol when? i have no record of him winning anything ever a legend in his own mind.

  2. Why did you play the REGULARS, when most of them are not in form ?

  3. People have said there’s something wrong about the Club behind the scenes. Does the fact Moyes is blaming the players rather than accepting some of the blame himself show he’s lost the dressing room?
