Moyes has big Soucek decision to make against Blades

West Ham v Sheffield United: big Soucek decision

West Ham might have been licking their wounds as they made their way back from Merseyside last Sunday. Despite a 3-1 defeat at the hands of in-form Liverpool, the Irons had once again shown their mettle on the pitch. However, the news of Newcastle’s astonishing 8-0 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday must have quickly lifted their spirits.

Sheffield United’s performance was nothing short of a disaster, and their defence looked insipid throughout the match. What was particularly noteworthy was Newcastle’s proficiency in set-pieces, and Sheffield United’s inability to contain it. This vulnerability cracked the game wide open from the very beginning. James Ward-Prowse’s arrival over the summer has revitalized or threat from corners and free-kicks. This is despite losing set-piece coaching specialist Paul Nevin from the coaching staff.

Big Soucek decision. Will Moyes opt for Mohammed Kudus instead?

Sheffield United has conceded four goals from set-pieces this season, the highest in the league. Whilst West Ham have looked deadly every time we’ve been awarded a corner. Players like Nayef Aguerd, Tomas Soucek, and Kurt Zouma are already relishing the improved quality of service. And that is before we’ve even factored in the hulking presence of Konstantinos Mavropanos.

Big decision

David Moyes has favoured Tomas Soucek, Edson Alvarez and James Ward Prowse in recent games, focusing on a strong midfield presence. However, the manager might consider switching things up by sacrificing the hardworking Soucek, despite his recent goal against Lincoln, and giving summer signing Mohammed Kudus his first league start.

Personally, I hope he does. I completely understand the managers reasoning for packing midfield against the top teams. However, we are playing possibly the worst team in the Premier League, so surely another attacker is warranted? Kudus also deserves the chance to play alongside the first teamers, rather than the likes of Fornals, Danny Ings and Maxwel Cornet.

Absolutely agree Gonzo this is a game where Moyes should put on his flair players as a strategy. The last thing we need is Kudus relegated to the 70th minute swap sub role which he always does. A bit more flare from the manager would be very welcome. Be aware of Sheffield but don’t go over cautious!!!
