Aaron Cresswell has returned to his best form and David Moyes continues to be very impressed by our left back.
He spoke of his international chances a few weeks back but the continuing fom of the team in general and our lofty position certainly isn’t harming Creessy’s chances.
He is certain to play at United tonight in a match which no doubt Gareth Southgate will be watching very closely.
A decent display again could put the 30 year old very much in the England manager’s mind – a position which Moysie believes he should be occupying.
He continued his Cressie theme ahead of the game and clearly believes that he is a player who – despite the competition in that position has more than a chance of making his Three Lions presence felt.
First and foremost though it’s all about beating United tonight and Moes is more than hopeful that we will come out winners.
He said: “If he (Cresswell) keeps his standards up, if he keeps his form up, he’ll be close to England selection. When you’re an English player you’re always in the spotlight if you can get some good form.
At the moment England have got one or two good left-backs and left centre-backs, but I think Cressy’s performance in the first half of the season’s been very good.”
And on the season as a whole he added: “I think the team has done really, really well. I couldn’t praise the players enough for how they’ve done, but I’ve got to say I genuinely think we’ve got another step to go up to.
We’ve got to hang in when we’re not playing so well, and we’ve got to find ways and solutions to pick points up, but I’ve seen some levels of performance recently which has given me big hope we can keep getting better.
We’ve got half the season to go now, and hopefully we can keep showing the performances from the first half of the season in the second part.
