THE problems with posting record losses of £105 million and sitting in eighteenth position are myriad. David Sullivan and his co directors will be wondering how to fund the huge multi-million shortfall if West Ham do slide into the championship next season.
The club has slashed the wage bill by ridding themselves of many of their most costly signings already, but any thoughts of recruiting in the summer have had to be put on hold whilst the remaining Premier League fixtures are played out.
But surely any thoughts of recruiting the calibre of players being watched last summer are now far in the rear view mirror. Which would account for the report today in footballfancast.com revealing that :
“West Ham’s hopes fading as Everton storm into race for Oscar Mingueza:
West Ham United were pushing hard to sign Mingueza last month, but their hopes are fading, amid interest from three sides performing far better than them in the Premier League this season.”

Oscar Mingueza from his Barca days – a top hammers target before the money – just like the Premier League challenge- evaporated
Just another fact of relegation-threatened life at West Ham United.
With record losses meaning – even if the club survive – player sales are on the cards to make up the huge shortfall of cash thanks to mismanagement in recent years, there’ll be little scope for further improving the squad with players such as former Barca defender Mingueza.
Who’d be in the recruitment department just now with no cash to spend, multiple players likely to be heading out of the door come the summer either to balance the books or make way for Championship – level recruits in their stead.
If this is the thinking of potential signings then perhaps we are better off without these shallow players.
this club has been in this position so many times.
imagine the financial hit that the club will get on Alvarez, Fulkrerg, Ward Prowse, Kilman etc.
clubs will sit back and watch us implode with the write offs and financial hits from their wages. that’s on top of the low ball offers for our best players.
No worries, Brady will no doubt get a nice pay rise and season tickets will go up….
