David Moyes has added a layer of irony to his comments about West Ham United‘s transfer business. The former Hammers manager, who was criticised for his own transfer strategies, has now expressed surprise at the club’s extensive summer spending.

Moyes’ comments highlight the stark contrast between his approach and that of his successor, Julen Lopetegui. While Moyes preferred to work with a smaller squad, Lopetegui has embraced a more proactive transfer policy.

The Hammers’ successful transfer window, which has seen them bring in eight new signings, is a testament to the club’s ambition and the effectiveness of their recruitment strategy. The players they have signed have the potential to significantly enhance the team’s performance.

Moyes’ criticism of West Ham’s transfer activity is ironic given his own reluctance to invest in the squad during his tenure. His comments highlight the importance of a proactive transfer policy and the benefits it can bring to a club.

While Moyes may have had his own reasons for his approach, it is clear that West Ham’s current transfer strategy is paying off. The club is well-positioned for success in the upcoming season, thanks to the efforts of the technical director and the new signings.

But one thing is for certain, this summer rebuild was not only necessary but a direct consequence of the transfer approach of the very man now criticising it.

Sour grapes methinks!

There was always going to be incomings this window, regardless of whoever was in charge.

Lopetegui like most managers prefers a full size squad meant more.

Moyes is the past I see no reason to dwell on him, just move on.

  • Dave says:

I don’t think he was being critical, he just said it’s better not to have so many signings in one window, which surely makes sense if you ask most managers they like a settled squad…

In an ideal world absolutely. However with the inadequate squad Moyes left the club with, there was no other option if moving the club forward is desired.
He has a selective memory does Mr Moyes, didn’t mention Phillips by any chance in the reference? Another one for him to be personally proud of.

  • Simon says:

Both Moyes + Big Sam are currently doing the “sour grapes sobbing”. Why is that?
Because they are both arrogant boofs who think of themselves as masters in this trade.
As a former footballer, coach and administrator, I beg to differ with both of these coaches who came to West Ham with terrible attitudes.
Clearly Moyes had created and left the club in a terrible predicament with a small squad of below average players with a losing attitude.
See the comments of Bowen + Alvarez who are applauding the sudden lift in better understanding the game (similar words of Rice at Arsenal) and with that will come a better cohesion amongst the players with the new coach.
Sadly, Moyes and Big Sam will not say good things about the current situation as Moyes could not stomach the new director and his technical understanding of the game and the recruiting of quality players, and Big Sam’s hatred of the West Ham way, and its supporters.
Our prayer is that J-Lopetegui get the team playing better and achieve results far superior.
Come on you irons – God bless West Ham.

Moyes will still end up finishing above Floppy and no chance of Europe.

who cares what the dinosaur 🦕 reckons

  • B Jordan says:

Moyes the dinosaur 🦕 has no right to criticise the new recruitment process. It is occurring only because of his own lack of correct recruitment of the squad players. He left a squad of old, slow, unambitious and flexible players. It was only because of his leadership incompetence that this recruitment process had to be taken! No wonder he was seen as an arrogant narcissist! Good luck Loppi! COYI 👍⚒⚒⚒

  • Shortmemorymarvin says:

God knows what morale is like at Chelsea then with 40 odd players vying for a place in the team. Shouldn’t be forgotten though that these so called useless Moyes players had us in Europe three years in a row and won us a European cup.

  • Jamie Hickman says:

The man really needs to move on with his life. He’s like a jilted lover who can’t seem to stop backbiting to anyone who gives him a platform

where are the comments? i don’t see anything in inverted commas

  • 60sSupporter says:

Good discussion all – well done.

Personally I have to admit discomfort with the number of new faces coming in. I’m better with a stable squad with small updates. But our campaigns in Europe exposed the lack of options and it was a case of doing really well despite that. And then I beleive exhaustion was the key reason for failure last season.

So an influx had to happen and it will all sette down – but will take some time. I’m wishing for the opposite but don’t be surprised if we lose again this afternoon,

By the way, dinosaurs🦖🦕 were highly successful and left us a lasting legacy.

    • B says:

“exhaustion was the key reason for failure last season.”
Definitely played a huge role in West Hams second half drop-off from top 6 at Xmas.

The article, if you want to call it that, shows no evidence of Moyes criticism or any real ‘news’ other than the writers opinion that West Ham have somehow ‘improved’ after spending £140mil. Although there is no evidence to substantiate that claim, as of now having not won a game.

  • Bournehammer says:

He made the comments on the no tippy tippy football podcast he was at it with BFS. The quote was, “When you think back over time, as football managers we never really wanted to bring in eight players,”.
The irony is obvious but he wasn’t really having a dig.

  • Charlie Farley says:

There was no need to write this article. It’s added to the toxicity towards David Moyes from the haters who take every opportunity to bash him when presented with such an opportunity.
The successful Moyes era is over……it was time for West Ham to be something different Please move on fellas and leave your vitriol behind. Especially you, Simon Leyland!!
