Moyes is coy on chances of starting Bowen

|

West Ham manager David Moyes has decided not to carry out a second pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s rescheduled match against Manchester City. Instead, he has published a series of quotes about the game.

He reveals that he is very pleased pleased with the way Jarrod Bowen has settled in quickly on his arrival at the club and with his training but admitted he is wary of throwing in new recruits too quickly.

David Moyes is quoted as saying “I have been pleased with what I have seen from Jarrod at the moment. He’s come in and settled in very quickly, he’s looked very sharp in training. He’s obviously had loads of games, it’s not as if he’s short of match practice or match fitness in any way so I have been pleased.

“But I am also wary of putting the boys in too quickly. I have had lots of boys from the Championship in the past and I think it’s important that you put them in at the right time, the right moments, at the right time and we will just take our time and see when it’s right for Jarrod.”

Asked whether he would be starting Bowen on Wednesday night at the Etihad the Gaffer said: “I wouldn’t say that and I wouldn’t be direct as that and give you the answer even if I was. But obviously, he is a talent. We need goals, he can do that. I am also very aware that we don’t need to put pressure on him too quickly.”

Claret and Hugh say: Maybe Manchester City is not the ideal game for a starting debut for the new recruit but in some ways, both Wednesday’s game and next Monday’s game at Anfield against the Premier League leaders are free hits for Moyes to introduce new formations and new styles of playing with different players. The big game comes against Southampton at the end of the month which many regard as a make or break game when it comes to West Ham’s Premier League survival chances.

Moyes was and always will be the wrong fit for West Ham.Apart from dodgy team selections and substitutions the club goes out in January and buys a player who can score goals, albeit at a slightly lower level. One of our problems has been scoring goals and now Moyes is waiting for the right time to play him. Please, please Mr Moyes, with just 12 games to go after this one WHEN WILL BE THE RIGHT TIME?

Why would he announce his team before the game?

  • master says:

Didn’t have such thoughts when he threw ngakia in and then dropped him completely thereafter

The man, like so many managers who have earned a lot of money from the game, is a total fraud. Makes it up as he goes and hopes for the best.

Besides Crystal Palace offering a loan for him, we were the only serious club in for Bowen. Spent a whopping £22 million and still Moyes is unsure. Unbelievable.

    But I’m sticking with Haller……

    Play him you wee daftee

I don’t like what he’s saying about Bowen. The boy is 100% fit, raring to go and full of confidence. Don’t mess about giving him bits and pieces, his sharpness in front of goal will disappear, his confidence will drop.

Omg,Are you serious ? So basically you are saying let’s use Brown after we are already 3 or 4 nil down ? That is more pressure to expect him to change a losing score line.

  • John Botham OBE says:

Moyes is typically staid and gutless, play all our best players till we are safe!

  • slidingtackle says:

    Just play him.
Why wait ? If he’s any good then he should be in the first XI, who else deserves to play.
We need two points from the next two games for Moyes to make up for his ineptness against Brighton.
