Moyes lays down European challenge

|

David Moyes insists that West Ham have to make European qualification a habit over the next few seasons.

The Hammers were beaten 2-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday.

It is not at all beyond the realms of possibility that the Hammers can reach the final, although they will need to win in Germany to have any chance.

Moyes’ side remain firmly in contention to qualify for Europe via the league, given Manchester United’s struggles.

A win over Arsenal this weekend would take the Irons above United in the league table and into sixth, which would mean Europa League qualification if the Irons fail to win the competition.

And Moyes has laid down the gauntlet for the Hammers over the next couple of seasons, insisting that they simply have to make qualification a habit.

Speaking ahead of the Gunners game, as per The London Evening Standard, he said: “I want us to stay in there.

“We’ve been challenging now for two years. We want to try and do it again because we’ve really enjoyed our European campaign.

“I think it’s lifted the entire club. I hope there’s more than one more year. We want to do it again. We want to keep that up.”
