Moyes lays down World Cup gauntlet to Bowen

David Moyes has urged Jarrod Bowen to play his way into the England World Cup squad and boost the Hammers in the process.

The Irons winger has impressed in recent weeks and has scored in back-to-back Premier League games, against Wolves and Fulham, while he was also on the scoresheet against Anderlecht in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.

It shows that the ex-Hull star may well be getting back to top form, having netted 18 goals in all competitions last season.

Moyes believes that Bowen is starting to go up a gear, and has urged him to keep scoring so that he can both push the Irons up the table, and work his way into the England squad for the upcoming World Cup.

The Irons have 10 games left, both in the Premier League, the EFL Cup – against Blackburn Rovers – and the Europa Conference League before club football is paused for the tournament in Qatar, across November and December.

Moyes told reporters, as per the club’s official website: “Everybody who’s watching would now see Jarrod’s development.

“You can really see an improvement. His technical part of his game is getting better. He looks faster and quicker. He’s understanding a lot more tactically what he has to do. For us, he’s been pretty consistent as well.

“Jarrod’s a really good boy to work with. He wants to listen, wants to watch his clips, to see what he could improve on. He wants to look at his runs, wants to look at what he could do better. He’s a really diligent boy and trying to improve his game.

“You can see that over the last two, three years, he has certainly improved his game. I said to him I think if he scores five or six goals before the World Cup, he will have a chance of going. He’s giving himself a real chance at the moment because he’s getting some goals and his form’s improved greatly.”
