Moyes’ magnificent Irons – what a day!

Hammers 1 Chelsea 0

I can’t remember feeling so proud and relieved – that was utterly – TRULY – magnificent!

If anybody can remember a greater performance of courage, resilience,  resolution and skill from an Irons team don’t bother letting me know.

Today was enough – more than enough – and at the end of a really bad week I and thousands feel very very proud.

David Moyes’ first win as West Ham boss was created by a goal from the Gods involving just six passes through the Chelsea defence and converted by the entirely committed  Marko Arnautovic.

And although after that there were obviously periods where we needed to cling on, the boys got their concentration levels up to 100 per cent and showed that this bunch can now look forward to climbing the league.

Defensively the team were superb,in midfield they won so many battles and challenged for everything, and up front Michail Antonio was a magnificent outlet when the pressure was on.

Arthur Masuaku was extraordinary providing the skill and running which will stretch any defence in the League as he showed today.

But overall it was the spirit and togetherness this team showed that had the chests of all us Irons puffing out in pride but first and foremost this was David Moyes’ day. Thank you boss.

A more considered piece later maybe but for now just sheer joy!

YOU IRONS

  1. Moyes deserves credit 2 great performances against top sides (really shows how bad things got under Bilic) had we been playing like this since staff of season def wouldn’t be in bottom 3 but moving in right direction. I my negative from me was leaving Antonio on to long again.
But w the referees not helping us at all w few more dive calls & hate cards for celebrating w Fans. Always seem they take aide of ‘bigger’ clubs but won in spite of that.
Arthur Antonio & Arnie were great the Triple A’s threat going fwd & I think once they play more together will sync up better Ant & Arnie had 2 chances where each had bad pass & could ha e been goals.
Arnie has adjusted to right aide even those prefers left & great first PL goal in Chelsea Derby starting to show up!
Arthur was brilliant Sponsor’s MOTM & His pace strength dribbles he gets better every game & left midfield & wingback is his position. He keeps working on crossing & finishing will be great LM more so.
Adrian most start in goal from now on 2 superb saves in first half that were low left (1st was great save) & that is Hart’s weak spot.
Adrian makes me feel more confident & looks like he does the same for defense & team. Reid was a rock & Ogbonna had another very good game had best stats of defenders. Gald Moyes had bottle to start him
Obiang had a great game too looked like Obiang of last season Noble good game as well. Everyone!
Buzzing good atmosphere good game we get better at finishing we put that away earlier.

But let’s keep this momentum going & get another win in our next Derby against Arsenal!
Happy for Moyes what a great first win at Home to Chelsea in Derby! COYI!

  2. Not being the most loyal fan of Ogbonna or Obiang, I find myself hoping they have both turned a corner.
Ogbonna has now gone 2 games without a fatal error. He was also used to give depth to the hammers back-line by dropping off at the vital moments and playing like a sweeper, something necessary to combat Chelsea’s lethal attack.
Obiang probably played his most disciplined tenacious and non-stop shift ever for us. It then gave him confidence in the second half to play some very creative stuff.
    Early days but very encouraging.
I have said for nearly a year that Masuaku will never be a left-back, but that he could be some form of left sided attacking player. Today showed the extent to which he could develop that position. He was a constant threat to Chelsea and always able to carry the ball out of our half of the pitch to give our defense a bit of relief.
Can’t wait for the evolution to continue.
