Moyes makes a promise

By Hughie Southon

David Moyes is reputed to be one of the hardest working managers in the game.

He often arrives at 7am and is at Rush Green until long after the players have finished training.

Therefore, we have no doubts that he will be spending more time than most would perhaps imagine getting things right during a break which for him will probably be anything but that.

Let’s get one thing straight. I do not believe the Hammers will be relegated this season but that may only be on the basis that there are teams performing more poorly than us and that I believe we will improve.

No doubt after spending the money they have the board will be having the same thoughts as many fans but given they have always shown plenty of patience with thei managers it is unlikely that much will change until at least PERHAPS the new year.

Moyes meanwhile has given what almost amounts to a farewell speech ahead of the break in which he has congratulated the squad for their effort against Leicester City

Speaking to www.whufc.com he said: Look, we’ve got a great bunch and the one thing today was that the players ran their you know whats off and did everything they possibly could to try and win the game, and I said that to them.

I’ve said: ‘Your effort and your commitment, that’s why us why, in the main, we were really pleased with what you’ve done’ because you gave 100 per cent all the way’.

But obviously we were lacking in the in the bit which really matters and that’s the goalscoring.

There has been a lot of stuff here at West Ham over the last two years which has been good and a lot of people won’t have seen teams challenging up near the top as often and we want to do it again – and we know that’s why everybody’s disappointed with where we are just now.

We will be working over the next six weeks to put things right, but we will also be taking a break because that’s what it’s for.

I put an awful lot of hours in, and I work hard at the club. We do everything we can, and we will be doing the same during this break.

  1. There is no doubt that Moyes puts the work in and yes we know we cannot score despite the money spent. Most if not all of the negativity is because from almost being relegated prior to Moyes coming back two years riding high and we expected to build on two top ten finishes, we spent £170 million on supposedly world class players the board and coaching staff said we’re the bees knees. We buy very late in the transfer window then for the first 5 or 6 games the new players are not ready, what we were promised hasn’t materialised. As a fan I was of the belief we were to improve and finish at least top ten on our current form we deserve to finish just above the relegation zone. Who is to blame, Moyes has started to blame the ‘expert’ fans the players but not himself, we have expansive exciting players who are not allowed to play, played out of position and then some how fall out with the manager so he doesn’t select them (sorry that’s what it looks like) there are so many issues wrong at the club at the moment most appear to be caused by the manager will he be able to turn it around I’m not sure is sacking the manager is cheaper than the fallout of relegation. I suppose 15th in the league will be better than 18th at the end of the season. I won’t hold my breath for too much of a change!!

  2. I would suggest he spends the World Cup break studying his copy of ‘How to be a Football Manager’ and concentrate on the Chapters about ‘Team Structure’, ‘Style of Play’, ‘Integration on New Players’ and ‘Game Management’ – he seems to have skipped those sections in the past! 😉

  3. Moyes does work hard, don’t doubt it. But he has taken us as far as he can.Players don’t seem to know what they are doing and/or played out of position.Time for him to go, out of last 90 points available have won 31, just not good enough.
