Moyes makes big Everton confession

|

David Moyes has confirmed that he almost returned to Everton before his second stint at West Ham.

The Hammers boss has been remarkable since coming back to the London Stadium, guiding the club into Europe, and hoping to cap it with silverware this season.

Indeed, the Irons are preparing to play Lyon in the quarter-finals of the Europa League but he has now revealed that he was “very, very close” to rejoining Everton before deciding to move back to east London, per an interview with Alan Shearer in The Athletic.

The Toffees have struggled immensely in the years since Moyes’ reappointment at West Ham in December of 2019.

Since then, they have appointed Carlo Ancelotti, Rafael Benitez, and now Frank Lampard as manager, and have finished 12th and 10th in two successive seasons.

This term, they are mired in a relegation battle, sitting 17th in the Premier League table and just three points clear of the relegation zone.

Moyesy made the right choice and he seems to think so too, saying: “It has been a great move for me and I’m really enjoying it — a great group of players, a really good club with huge potential.

“I’m so glad I was given a second chance at West Ham because the first time I was here they didn’t keep me.”
