Moyes names his big three Irons v Wolves

David Moyes named three players in particular for a special word following the precious three pointer against Wolves.
The manager changed things cleverly from recent games and it paid off big time although with more than a killer touch up front it could all have ended in a more convincing score line.
That didn’t seem to worry the boss too much as we went back into fifth five points ahead of Wolves on a day when the team slipped right back into gear at the start of a very serious week’s football on the south coast and in Liverpool.
Moyes relief and joy at the end was clear as he turned towards the tunnel and he will believing that progress in the FA Cup and Premier League – even at Liverpool – is possible.
And in assessing the performance he named three players as having had notably good games saying:

“I thought Kurt played well. I think we all know the ability he has got and we are also aware we are trying to help him through a difficult time – a time we all regret.
“Strong and commanding, he made a couple of incredible blocks late in the game when we needed him. He was powerful in the air and aggressive at times plus he won a great race in a one v one situation in the first half.”

There was also individual praise for  Ben Johnson and the rather more experienced Michail Antonio was back to his best. “I thought Ben did well,” insisted Moyes.

“He has potential to step up. Today he got forward and crossed it, and made some brilliant tackles. He did a really good job, especially in the first half going forward and joining in and being part of the attacks. He has a lot of potential and we want him to keep improving.

“Michail probably had his worst last ten minutes [in the closing stages] but I have to say he had his best 80 minutes for a while.

“He worked brilliantly for the team, got an assist and created chances. Their ‘keeper made a good save from him in the first half. I thought he looked closer to scoring today so I was pleased with him.”

  1. I cannot fathom for one minute that Moyes truly believes that Antonio had a good 80 minutes, so either I was watching a different game to him or he is covering up the fact that he doesn’t want to hook him even though he was having another mare.
Cannot argue with the comments on Zouma and Johnson who were superb, but Mikey is letting us down and should be rested.

  2. Antonio – very good at footrace stuff, but not at hold up play. Must play in the box not 20 yards outside – the team needs to treat him like Vardy – play up to feet only or over the top for a chase.
