Moyes on Leicester game and Zouma’s sickness

Hammers boss David Moyes was quick to explain Kurt Zouma’s problems after the team had snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat at the very end of the match at Leicester.

Zouna had been named in the team for the game but withdrew after it was revealed that he had been feeling ill.

The obvious reaction among some was that he may have been worried about crowd reaction following his difficult week but the manager made it clear that was not the case,

We understand that the player returned to London as the game was being played and that he had suffered from gastro problems.

Issa Diop was called in to replace Zouma and let nobody down providing the assist for the goal and doing well defensively.

The manager addressed the situation when talking to the BBC after the game making it clear that the player had not felt well for some time before the game.

He said of that and the 90 minutes : “Kurt Zouma has sickness, gastro problems. He wasn’t well last night, did not come down for the pre-match meal in case it was something else.”

We started very well and should have got a second goal at 1-0. We gave Leicester a leg up and allowed them back in the game and the goal before half-time was decisive.

“In the first 20, 30 minutes we were on top and annoyed we did not make more opportunities from the positions we were in.

Leicester played much better, it looked it was going to get away but shows great resilience. We are a bit disappointed just to take a point. When you are not playing as well as you can do, we dug in deep and keep picking up the points.”
