Moyes on much reported defender link

David Moyes has refused to comment on links with Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.

The Hammers boss is keen to bolster his backline this month and has been linked with a swoop to sign the centre-back from the Reds in this transfer window.

He was on the list at the start of the window but there has been precious little movement on Phillips, who remains under contract at Anfield.

He has struggled  for minutes this season, though, playing four times in all competitions, and failing to play a single second in the Premier League.

However, he showed just how good he was last season, deputising for Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez amid their injury woes and playing 17 times in the top-flight.

Moyes was asked about a potential move for Phillips in this transfer window but, as he always tends to do, he has refused to comment on the Liverpool ace.

Speaking before this weekend’s clash with Manchester United, Moyes told reporters, via Football.London: “I don’t know why you would ask me about a player directly because I cannot give you an answer whether I was or I wasn’t so you can take that as whatever answer you like.”
