Moyes picks his Hammers team for huge Europa clash

|

David Moyes has reverted to a back four for the must-win clash with Lyon in the Europa League this evening.

The Irons need to win the game to reach the semi-finals, where they would face either Barcelona or Eintracht Frankfurt.

As always, Alphonse Areola has returned in goal in place of Lukasz Fabianski.

And in defence, Kurt Zouma is absent through injury after the defeat to Brentford at the weekend.

In his place is Issa Diop, with Craig Dawson partnering him at centre-back.

Vlad Coufal pays at right-back, while Ben Johnson is drafted in at left-back to replace the suspended Aaron Cresswell.

In midfield, Declan Rice joins Tomas Soucek; if the England international is booked, and West Ham win, he will miss the semi-final.

Pablo Fornals, Manuel Lanzini, and Jarrod Bowen provide support to Mikey Antonio up front.

Full West Ham XI: Areola; Coufal, Diop, Dawson, Johnson; Rice, Soucek; Fornals, Lanzini, Bowen; Antonio. Subs: Fabianski, Randolph, Alese, Masuaku, Fredericks, Noble, Kral, Chesters, Perkins, Yarmolenko, Benrahma, Vlasic.

Full Lyon XI: Pollersbeck, Gusto, Denayer, Lukeba, Emerson, Faivre, Mendes, Ndombele, Ekambi, Aouar, Dembele. OL subs: Bonnevie, Lucas Paqueta, Kadewere, Dubois, Keita, Tete, Da Silva, Reine-Adelaide, Barcola, Boateng, Barcola.

Typical Moyes selection, boring and predictable. Soucek and Bowen have been dire in recent months and I cannot phathom how he can bench Benrahma and continue to play Soucek. We needed all our quality attacking players on the field from the start tonight but no he decided that playing Benrahma, Fornals and Lanzini was too risky. Soucek has been awful and the side he has picked just reflects Moyes as a manager. Lets hope I am wrong.

Jonham, what on earth are you talking about? Again. How can you say Bowen has been dire in recent months? He didn’t play for a month and since he’s been back he’s scored 3 in 4 games.

Oh do give it a rest Johnham. The side Moyes phase picked might be predictable and boring according to you but if the team Moyes has picked reflects him as a manager it’s because they are all hard working team players and it’s the team spirit and discipline and determination, resilience and perseverance that wins matches and those are all Moyes qualities. So yes your definitely wrong.
