Moyes proved his point with Ward Prowse

|

David Moyes has chased James Ward Prowse for the best part of 18 months. However he had to wait a matter of minutes into the midfielders debut to feel fully vindicated.

With only his second corner of the game, the £30m former Saint, assisted Nayef Aguerd for the Hammers opener. Ward Prowse had given warning, just moments before when his previous set-piece caused havoc in the Chelsea defence.

Much has been written about the No7’s dead-ball skill, so it should really come as no surprise. But to see it in the claret & blue was confirmation that West Ham have signed the best in the business.

Moyes proved his point with James Ward Prowse

Make no mistake about it, The Hammers are now a very serious threat from set-pieces. We’ve been there before of course, but now we’re back to the old days when every corner felt like an opportunity.

The icing on the cake, was Ward Prowse’s assist for Michail Antonio’s brilliant goal. The debutant swept the ball forward with his left foot during a move from open play. Whilst I was expecting the set-piece deliveries, the left footed passing range was unexpected.

Respect to David Moyes for pursuing his number one target with such vigour and determination. He was immediately proven right, with a performance of assassin like qualities.

There will be no settling in period required for Ward Prowse. He is disciplined enough to hold position in midfield and offer a threat when needed.

So well done on your debut Mr Ward Prowse, I can’t wait for the next corner.
