Moyes proves doubters wrong with unbeaten run

David Moyes has an unbeaten run of four games with a fantastic haul of eight valuable Premier League points.

If you had told West Ham supporters after the Newcastle defeat on the first day of the season that we would beat Wolves 4-0, Leceister City 3-0 draw 3-3 against Spurs and 1-1 against Manchester City they would think you were barmy!

Moyes has proven many of his critics wrong and seems to have found a magic formula and formation that works wth much talent still on the bench.

Three months ago who would have guessed that Arthur Masuaku would be a permanent fixture in the starting eleven or that Fabian Balbuena would keep Issa Diop out of the team.

There is a belief that this is the start of something special and the Hammers can beat or at least draw against anyone on their day.

Earlier this week the manager said he is not bothered about talk of a new contract which runs out in the summer, he says the owners and he are relaxed about it preferring his results to do his talking about how long he will remain at West Ham.

On the basis of the last four games, that could be many years to come!

  1. I wonder where we would be if they kept him 1st time round.
No way would we have wasted 120m on bang average players that Pelegrini wasted let alone contracts for Wilshire etc.
I think we would have been in a better place but hindsight.

  2. It makes me wonder where would WHU be if Moyes had remained in charge after his first spell at the club and Pelligrini had not been appointed and backed in the transfer market by the board.
I do remember reading when Moyes left the club that it was DS that did not wish to retain him but both DG and KB thought he should be given a further contract. If he had stayed we would surly have been in a much better position financially without the often reckless recruitment that followed Moyes departure, let alone the management costs of Pelligrini and staff which I have heard estimated at in excess of 20 Million. DS really must take the responsibility if it was his decision to take the Pelligrini route and stop winging about the clubs financial state. On his track record so far hopefully we are improving and will continue to do so under Moyes if he is given the backing he needs. . .

  3. Made the same points about Masuaku and Balbuena a couple of weeks ago and the combination is still adding greatly to the teams performances. What is in our favour at the moment is that the top teams are playing twice in a week whereas we are having six or seven days to recover. This is so we’ll and good while everyone is fit but if circumstances change as far as injuries are concerned , then we could be back to square one again, I remember a time last season when we had eight injured. If something similar happened this season I’m not sure if we would have eight senior pros to come in.

    • I agree Moyes has been brilliant and he is doing a very good job. I also agree the acid test will come when we pick up injuries and I also believe another big moment will be when we play the so called easier teams. Until I see this I will not be completely convinced. The reason I say this is the following the current system will have to be tweaked to break down these teams. We can still play 5 at the back but we need to be more creative – this is something Moyes has struggled with in previous roles. For me we will need to play the two up top in a 3-5-2 system to break these teams down but I fear Moyes will be too negative and not go with Antonio and Haller with Bowen or Benhrama in behind. I hope I am wrong because so far he has been excellent, lets wait and see these games before we judge him fully.

  4. Nice article Sean – now we can all support the manager and the TEAM that he has built. There will be hiccups on the way and this season will be a tough one generally – apart from Fulham and WBA there aren’t any really weak teams – but if we keep playing with teh same energy and organisation we should be fine

    Well done Moysie
