Moyes rated v Sheffield United

No Ogbonna…no Antonio – NO PROBLEM!

David Moyes seems to always finds a way and the decision to bring in Jesse Lingard and Craig Dawson showed again that this is a man who ALWAYS finds an answer.

The Manchester United loanee was outstanding to the point that Mikey didn’t enter our heads whilst Dawson was again busy demonstrating that he really is one of the signings of the season.

That two loanees should produce such performances should really stop everybody posing any question whatsoever of the manager.

3-0 and fourth position achieved against a team fighting for their lives is a great performance – that we were never out of first gear makes it an even greater performance.

After two goal-less performances against Fulham and Manchester United three and a clean sheet was the perfect answer to all those who were starting to believe the wheels may be coming off.

Terrific night – terrific managerial performance.

MOYES RATING 10

  1. Hands up, I admit it , I didn’t want Moyes back as manager!
I didn’t want Dawson and we definitely don’t want that trouble maker Lingard at this club.
Just goes to show what I know.
Well played lads, so proud of them all

  2. Great team performance, Moyes was spot on all night and we did play with a bit of ambition 😀 Lingard was on top of his game, hopefully same again on Sunday COYI!!!

  3. There’s no doubt Moyes did an A1 job, but he missed an opportunity to bring on a youngster instead of Beneramha and another for a few minutes instead of Fredricks

At Old Trafford it was proved you can’t do it in those matches, so what if we’d only just won (do long as we do)

I’d mark Moyes down for that

  4. His performance tonight was a lot better but I am not going to give him a 10. I was delighted to see Lanzini and Diop in the team, both players have been starved of game time. I was very disappointed to see Noble make yet another appearance, quite sad really when you have players like Benrahma and Fornals with so much energy on the bench. If Moyes thinks Noble will give us greater protection well I just don’t see it. Much better from Moyes tonight but the acid test will come against Spurs at the weekend, we are 6 points ahead of them, instead of having a right go at Spurs and put them away, he will revert to his default standard negativity which we again cost us. I hope I am wrong.

    • Is this the same negativity that see us score a bagful of goals from positions al over the park since the 2019/20 season restart? If it is, I’m with you al the way.

    • Knowing Sheffield United needed to win, playing on the break was an inspired tactic, when many thought we should be attacking them, based on where they are in the table. The only downside was seeing Lanzini once again prove he is no longer at the standard required.

Great management tonight though and the tactics worked perfectly. A better team may have scored but overall a solid 9 for me

  5. Cup still half full johnham
And will Somebody please explain why our first penalty was ruled out for offside
Am I wrong in thinking poor interpretation of the rules?

  6. So here’s a question for you Hugh. How do you assign your player rating scores?. Does each rating start at nought with points then added for things well done? Or do you start at ten and subtract points for errors? Or do you start at 5 and add or subtract for the good, the bad and the ugly. Just wondering. COYI.

    • Professional performance, great result, acid test it will be in the next few games… Unfortunately do not have a striker “that can really hold up the ball” from long balls, clearances etc… Actually thought we were more solid in midfield when Noble came on but I wish he would just be the holding midfielder and nothing else, when he goes upfield and we loose possession he struggles to get back and we look vulnerable… Let’s be brutally honest with ourselves, if they had a clinical “striker” last night it could have been a different story…Kane awaits and we all know he scores at will against us… but fingers crossed.. 🤞🤞I still believe that Cresswell is very suspect to any long balls, crosses that come to him… Last night, twice he was exposed but we got away with it… 🤔.. Anyway would have taken 1-0 victory last night… COYI

  7. Back three plus w/backs, three mobile players up top, measured football. Classic intelligent play. We can all debate personnel,, but three goals scored and a clean sheet will do for me. Carry on Mr Moyes!!

  8. I feared for us after Fulham beat Everton and W.B.A drew with Man.u
But there was no need after a solid performance and commitment from all of the team. Full credit goes to Moyes for his tactics and team selection especially keeping Fornals off the field who would be a good candidate on strictly , spending most of the time on the pitch dancing side to side, avoiding tackles.

  9. Apart from renewing and refreshing the team David Moyes has also reinvented himself as a manager. Did any of us really think it would be this good? Really?
He has shown himself to be very astute in the transfer market. True, he hasn’t had the mega-millions to throw around like his predecessor. But he has shown us he’s a good judge of a player and makes purchases at a sensible price. Additionally, he gets more from the players he has inherited. Look at how much Cresswell has improved under his stewardship. We need to tie Moysie down to new improved contract so he can continue his revolution at West Ham.
