Moyes recalls Wigan tale of doom

|

Moyes2David Moyes has warned “everyone” not to underestimate Wigan Athletic as the Irons go into their FA Cup fourth round clash tomorrow.

But he has used the match as a reminder that the Premier League survival is the bigger picture by remembering that it was only five years ago that the Latics won the Cup and were relegated.

Speaking ahead of the game he said: “I hope everyone realises that Wigan are a good side and they’re playing good football as well.

The strange thing is that it is only five seasons since they won the FA Cup and were relegated the same year from the Premier League.

If you look back and ask the Wigan people what they would rather have happened, I think they’d say they’d rather still be in the Premier League.

They knocked my Everton team out in the sixth round that season and I’ve played and managed against Wigan a lot over the years. I don’t think we’ve got a score to settle but I certainly think it will be a tough game for us.”

Yeah I am with you 580 on this one mate . I was a teenager when we won the cup in 1964, the Cup Winners Cup in 65 & the WC in 66. I thought this was how it was gonna be!! Mug! So cups should be special to me , but somehow I think I have lost the taste for em. It has been sooo long for Gods sake. You have nearly convinced me Kevin. Pride- yeah I think I remember that from 1980 but I dunno…..Maybe if we get through this one ..

And if there is no appeasing Sakho , tell him him to do one . Get rid of him despite how good he is Supposed, to be . Cash in and stuff him .

  • kevin says:

Learn some History , Moyes ; we don’t need reminding about Wigan .
We want this FA Cup , so put out the strongest possible team . End of . Right now it’s more important than the Palace game …… for us supporters anyway .

We love giving the little clubs a good cup run at our expense hey 64. Ahhh the memories of going out to the minnows.
I think we’re a bit too precious these days and will call for Moysie Out if we don’t progress but personally I’d take a defeat to see us comfortably positioned in the premier league. COYI.

You lack the Dream mate . A Cup Final appearance would do wonders . The Imputes of a cup run would also help our League form . Something most modern managers seem to ignore . Plus a back door to Europe . Or don’t you want that ??
Injuries aside we should be competing in the Worlds oldest tournament . PRIDE MATE .

Don’t think he needs to advise us to keep our expectations in check! Does he know anything about our history?

  • master says:

fans would say fa cup all day long
owners/managers and others who lack the passion but have a business interest (i.e. money) would obviously say premier league
