Moyes refuses to “put pressure” on Bowen

David Moyes continues to insist that he will not be rushing Jarrod Bowen into action claiming it is unfair to expect him to make a difference.

And the reason is that the manager is personally boasting to have a lot of experience of Championship players and when and when not to play them.

He is presumably recalling his time at Everton when he brought in the likes of Phil Jagielka and Joleyn Lescott which is all well and good but leaves you scratching your head wondering why he signed a guy at £22 million in the winter transfer difference if it wasn’t to make a difference.

It’s too easy to become abusive in certain circumstances and that is no way forward.

But this really is a hard situation to understand because it was pretty clear to most decent judges that against Manchester City he had a lot about him in the 10 minutes that Moyes decided to hand him.

Discussing the situation at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/february/21-february/david-moyes-well-do-everything-we-can-anfield : the manager said: “What we’re not going to do is put all the pressure on Jarrod Bowen to make the difference, because the boy’s come up from the Championship.

What I can tell you is he’s looked sharp, he’s certainly match-fit, he’s settled in very quickly and I would say he’s added to the group. I think he’s a good addition to the squad we’ve got and hopefully he shows that.

What I’m not going to do is put him in a position where we’re rushing him and he’s not ready yet. I’ve got a lot of experience with boys from the Championship and hopefully I’ll understand the right times to put him in and the right times not to use him as well.

  1. There would have been no pressure on Bowen in the last two matches as no one expected a result in either so i thought they would of been good times to give him plenty of minutes. Do find Moyes comment strange but he knows more than me .

  2. So we bought him for next season where he will be right back where he started from. Is that what Moyes is saying? The fella wants to be out there on the pitch doing it. No one is putting pressure on him we just want to see him get a decent run out. Can’t be any worse right?

  3. I have recently thought that Moyes decisions means he only has 5 brain cells. Make that 2 after comments re Bowen. Is he saving him for the Villa game.
Play him now. Let him get PL experience.
Moyes decided to play Arthur at LB against City. What side of the goal did they score 2.
Perhaps the demo at Southampton game would be more useful if it was against Moyes. Clueless is a polite way of explaining what I think of his decisions. He will probably put Declan at centre forward next.

  4. Like Beatz says. If Moyes had played Bowen in the City game & now the Liverpool game, where no one expected any points, he could have got his experience in those two games. But with Southampton coming up, where we are expecting a result. All the pressure will be on Bowen to deliver I think Bowen wasn’t Moyes signing. He said he wanted him but did he. I think Fellani was his target. GSBM OUT

  5. So in Moyes’s world the Czech league is better than the championship? His comments really don’t make any sense. Still really hope he gets us winning games somehow.

  6. Bowen is no kid, he is 23 and he’s been starring in the Championship by scoring and assisting in goals all season and the Championship is a pretty tough physical league to play in too so the guy is more than ready, willing, keen and able to play in the Premiership from the get go, so starting him on the bench and bringing him on with 10 minutes to go with us being down 2-0 and still only playing defensive football really beggars belief!!

By the way, Bowen played seven games in the Premiership with Hull in the 2016/2017 season before they were relegated and in the three seasons since in the Championship he has played 117 times scoring 52 goals!!

In the 2018/2019 season, despite being in the relegation zone after 19 games – an upturn in form saw the Tigers finish in an impressive 13th place – helped on by star man Jarrod Bowen who was also the Hull Player of the Year for the second successive season so I really can’t see what Moyes is waiting for!!

  7. Mr Moyes Bowen needs to play now so he can climatise to the prem NOW not when we get maybe (on paper)easier games ..he needs to be ready for the fight ahead and it seems by his coments that he is more than ready PLAY HIM ON MONDAY. ..FFS

  8. I’ve been a lukewarm supporter of Moyes but after his tactics and media comments this week about Jarrod Bowen I realise I’ve made a big mistake. Embarrassing all round and quite what the players think of his cowardly approach to the challenge ahead I can only imagine. Instead of leading from the front he’s cowering at the back.

  9. There would have been no pressure on him away to city in a game we were never going to win , likewise on Monday away to Liverpool. . Seems pointless not to give him a start in games we are not expected to win . Bowen is no stranger to the Premieship and can look after himself without the need for cotton wool . And in some respects the championship is tougher than the premiership . Just get him onto the pitch in a nothing to lose game and go for it. . Maybe Southampton can help out with damage limitation against Villa ;; what a sad thing to have to say , but there you go .
