Moyes remarkable Europa achievement

Moyes remarkable Europa achievement continues

David Moyes comes in for a lot of stick, and sometimes rightly so, in my opinion. However, his record in Europe is remarkable and deserves all the praise it receives.

Winning one’s group in European competition isn’t an easy thing to do. So the fact that Moyes has managed it for three seasons running is outstanding. It’s even more remarkable given that he’s done so at a club like West Ham.

Moyes remarkable Europa achievement as Hammers reach the last 16 AGAIN!

Winning the group has never been so important. It has afforded us the ability to put European competition on the backburner until March 2024. We avoid the perils of the playoffs and navigate a course away from the teams that have dropped down from the Champions League. So to make it into the last 16 in European competition for three years in succession rightly deserves to be applauded.

Moyes’s tactics are clearly perfectly suited to Europe, as last year’s win and the previous season’s semi-final would suggest. The irony is that he didn’t make a massive impact in continental competition with his Everton team, and he failed to make a dent during his single attempt managing Manchester United.

So, whilst I have my moans and complaints about David Moyes, his Euro exploits are not part of them. He has proven adept at utilising his squad very well for midweek games and has made West Ham incredibly hard to beat in Europe. The biggest compliment I can give is that others will be hoping they don’t face The Hammers when the draw for the last 16 is made.
