Moyes gives lowdown on “improving ” Lanzini

Manu Lanzini appears to responding to the challenges he is facing right now!

Out of form for so long it was very easy to go over the top about the Spurs equaliser but it was one hell of a goal from a bloke that needed it more perhaps than any other.

The excellence of the strike, and that it was from a guy whom we all have a great feeling for, made it easy for us to go a  bit mental given all the circumstances.

Now, however, he needs to respond again as the team strides towards – hopefully – a fourth unbeaten game on the trot tomorrow.

And manager David Moyes has revealed that he is looking a better player on the Rush Green training ground probably because he realises the competition for places is intensifying.

Whether he gets on against City remains to be seen but hopefully we are at the start of a serious comeback from the Argentine who at his best is as good as any in the league.

And commenting at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/october/23-october/david-moyes-manchester-city-manuel-lanzini-said-benrahma-mark he said: “When I had him the first time, he was terrific. No doubt, the injury has had an impact on where he is in different ways but I don’t see it as a reason for him not to get back to those levels.

His training has been improving and he’s got competition and he realises that. He’s not the number-one pick. When you’ve got competition the best thing you can do is do what he did the other night.

“You have come on, have an impact in the game and that’s the way you work your way back to it. There can be no guarantee given to any player, certainly not at West Ham at the moment.

“We’ve got really good competition for places and we want Manu to be part of that because he is a talented football player.”

  1. As an irony , the biggest let down in his play since his injury has been his shooting prowess in front of goal, which at the very best could be labelled tame!
Hopefully the snap fire shot when he had to go for it, will have boosted his confidence in his limbs and mind.

In terms of comparisons, Behrama ‘seems’ to have a wider skill set, but time will tell in both of them. The competition for the spot augers well for us anyway.
