Moyes reveals Downes plan

David Moyes has confirmed that Flynn Downes could play for the Hammers against FCSB on Thursday.

The Hammers are likely to rotate the squad when they take on Romanian opposition in their opening game of the Europa Conference League.

The Irons go into the group stage game hoping to start things on the right foot but also aware that there needs to be rotation due to the sheer amount of fixtures in which the Hammers are having to compete.

Downes has so far played 28 minutes of Conference League football, coming on as a substitute in both legs of the Viborg FF play-off.

He also came on as a late substitute against Manchester City in the Premier League but Moyes has confirmed that he could be set for a start this week.

Speaking in his pre-FCSB press conference, as per Football.London, he said: “Missed out in the last game. This could be an opportunity to see him start. Not got everything set but he’s in our thoughts.”

Downes has yet to really be given an opportunity, so one has to hope that he grabs any chance he gets.

  1. I would rather see him getting a start than Coventry, based on the update from Moyes today, the team should be on the lines of Areola, Ashby, Kehrer, Ogbonna, Emerson, Downes, Lanzini, Bowen, Benrahma, Cornet and Scammaca. Moysie give all the fans a break please and let loose the attacking players so please do not play two defensive midfielders because we are going no where against oppostion we should be competing with.

  2. What about Ashby ?
