Moyes reveals his problem with Benrahma

|

David Moyes has revealed the reason he is not playing Said Benrahma on a regular basis.

Asked for reasons why the loan player wasn’t getting his chance Moyes told reporters  his lack of ability in retaining the ball was one issue.

But he insisted: “We like him, he has got ability but he needs to make the right decisions adding it is a massive step up for him.

“With Said  it is about making the right pass and keeping the ball because getting the ball back isn’t easy in the Premier League.

The gaffer added: “Some players come in from the Championship and hit the ground running and some need a bit of time.

“I’m sure he is frustrated and that’s all part of it but he needs to know how to keep the ball because when you give it away in the Premiership it can be very difficult to get it back. He will need to wait like everybody else.”

Commenting on competition within the squad he said that Mark Noble, Said Benrahma, and  Manu Lanzini were all important players and needed to be pushing Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice for places.

eh eh calm down, calm down.
Is it possible Moyes is doing his secret squirrel stuff again ?
Benrahma may well play at least 30 minutes against Southampton.
Lanzini will start and dependent on the the score Benrahma may play in the same team as him or replace him.

Needs to keep the ball better …

    Yet Haller starts every game

  • Hammerman6 says:

I like Moyse but that comment is so out of the ball park. Haller gives the ball away 7 times out
    10. Never tries to get it back after his lost it. Fornals was almost as bad, but he does at least work and create now and then, but come on Benhrama is a real trier, exciting when he’s on the ball, can create something out of nothing and has pace. Sorry David that’s hypocritical to say the least.

Stuck by Fornals though didn’t he, who certainly gives the ball away. Bowen and he often fail to pick the right pass, choosing to shoot instead of finding a team mate.

We are doomed… Mark Noble to push for a starting place… Come on get real, would rather watch a team that tries to take the opposition on ie Benrhama than all this slow, ponderous build up when Noble is in volved..
NOBLE UNFORTUNATELY IS WAY PASSED HIS BEST… Gives the ball away far too often… Moyes needs to stop his “stubborn ways” because before you know it we will be sucked down the log again… Watch this space… Target this Southampton game for a result as we are doomed (as per usual versus Everton, especially with them having more recovery days now) I fear for us in the next 2 games… 🤔

  • Dave says:

Not bad £30m for someone who can’t keep the ball and doesn’t know when to pass it.
    Sounds like an U14 player.

  • Steve says:

Moyes wants to have a word with Haller as well then, because his ball retention is appalling!

  • Neil Down Under says:

My guess, based on that analysis, is the Haller is only getting games because there is no backup in the strikers position.
I get to see limited games in Australia so it’s an opinion based on what little evidence I’ve seen.
Said, even with the assessment of Moyes, seems to me to offer a little more threat at least.
Is there a chance he could add a bit of healthy bulk to his frame and switch to the centre forward position in the same way Anautovich did?

  • Alex B says:

Moyes going to coach out his flair and or kill his confidence.
He has not done bad at all considering the below.

Impact from the bench assisting soucek against Fulham winning us the game.

45 minutes against villa getting another assist helping us to 2-1 win.

15 mins against man u losing 3 – 1 after us not taking our chances and poor decisions.

85 mins against leads where be played well in a good performance and win!

Not great against palace but alot of players were not.

Chelsea another short substitute appearance when we were already behind.

I think he would do even better with antonio up top creating more space for him to work in also I can see what Moyes is referring too with some of his decision making but at least hes willing to get on the ball and try make something happen the amount of chances he creates far out weighs the odd time hes made a wrong decision. In other words Moyes grow a pair.

  • GaryD says:

Hmmm. Benrhama and Lanzini cannot step in for Rice or Soucek. Neither can compete with Noble defensively, he does not challenge them as a an offensive force.
They are competing for Bowen’s and Fornal’s positions. Both need a rest, so the others will have their chance to shine.

  • johnham1 says:

One of our best performances of the season away to Leeds, Benramha plays a significant part and Moyes decides he is not ready. Sorry there is no logic. If we had lost and played rubbish then I get it. I believe Moyes is telling tales and he is certainly not being honest with us fans and more importantly with Benrahma.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

I know what Moyes means but Benrahma even with bad decision making can change a game; he is the only player we have with that X factor. When we need to win games he should play we don’t need another Noble that holds the ball and passes backwards and sideways we need a player brave on the ball that passes forwards.

  • Al says:

    Is he taking the ****!!!!
I have always been a fan of Moyes but now I think he should be sacked. He has played Haller and Fornals over and over and Haller is undroppable for him. I have never seen players give possession away like those two. Haller can’t even jump and win a header and fornals is scared to be touched. And when he finally drops fornals for his **** performances he puts in noble. Benrahma is world class and Moyes is killing it. He also doesn’t like yarma. Anyone with flair and ability he won’t play. You have to remember that he did that to Antonio his first time round. Moyes is costing us points, I’m fffiiinggg angry about what he is doing. Sack him now and get Di canio in
