Moyes reveals January transfer plans

West Ham manager David Moyes has opened up on his transfer plans and claims he wants to spend in the January window.

However, with things as they are with the club’s finances it remains to be seen what can be done and there is no way he will disrupt the squad with signings for the sake of them.

There remain strong rumours that Josh King will perhaps be on his way to the club but as far as we can see the loan market looks the most likely area for the Irons to be operating within.

He insisted he wants to keep on pushing and improving but there would not be mass signings incoming.

He told reporters: “Will I be able to or will we be able to get what we want? I’m not sure. I’ll be saying the same thing as I said this time last year.

If we can and we think there is something available the owner would try and do it but obviously like everybody else we’re in a difficult situation financially, like all clubs. We won’t be daft.”

I want to keep pushing, I want to keep trying to improve but I have to say we will be linked with every man and their dog.

The truth is we won’t be signing every man and their dog, we’ll only be signing players who I think are right for the club. Players who are hungry and fit what we need.

I can only say we will try and improve if it is out there and we can do it, ones who can make an impact like we have got recently.”

Asked whether he had a transfer target list or idea what his priorities were he was coy saying injuries were a factor in his decisions adding

“I think that is quite fluid at the moment because injuries can play a part in it. We’ve lost Antonio and all of a sudden we’ve lost Arthur so we’re starting differently from where other things might have been on your mind.

We’ve just got to be fluid, ready to change with it. This time of year with the amount of games you have got you tend to pick up more injuries so what I might want now might be different come three weeks time or before the end of the window.

I would be surprised if we’re out making big signings, I don’t think that will be the case”

  1. He’s being coy, but with Masuaku injured for some months, we will be desperate for a left sided defender (LB, LWB) and a back up CM as well as a striker. Those 3 positions are non-negotiable, if we are to have a good season.

  2. Moyes has a policy of under promise and over deliver. Or put differently, delivering more than was promised. So if that’s the case, does that mean we will get a big signing? No I don’t think so. is there a hint in there with the staying fluid thing and the recent injury to Arthur though, that we might be getting a new left wing back? Maybe. Maybe not. Wouldnt surprise me though. We’ve got three right backs in coufal, Fredericks, Johnson. On the left we’ve only got Arthur, and cress. Cress now plays as a centre back and Arthur is out injured so it’s easy to see where the position shortfall is.
So here’s how I see it. Two signings in January, josh king as a permanent signing plus a left wing back on loan with or without an option to buy.

  3. Honesty is the best policy . Not leading us up the garden path is the best way to go . Apart from a few massively rich clubs the Premiership is in a financial crisis . What we don’t need is losing players to fund the empty cheque books whilst giving advantage to the big boys . To sell players now would be disappointing & disastrous . We have seen all to often our best players being sold ; it’s time to stop that outflow of talent . Obviously we need a striker but not at the expense of our rather thin squad . Too many “ Big Clubs “ have robbed us over the years of our best talent because of our financial situation . The names of the players makes a huge and long list . I still remember the Two Dave’s saying : we are no longer a selling club .
If we sell anyone now we are doomed to oblivion and our future will be very dim indeed .
This is a crazy season to be sure ; but we are doing far better than expected and we must continue in that vain . The Tool Box is lacking the Tools , but a good mechanic will always find a way ,,, as is David Moyes doing . Never throw away an old rusty tool just to buy a cheaper and useless one .

  4. Both Fornals and Johnson can play on the left until Masuaku returns.
