Moyes rules out the kids

David Moyes admits that he is unlikely to play the youngsters between now and the end of the season.

The Hammers boss was asked about the potential of bringing young players into the fold with Vladi Coufal injured and a number of big fixtures coming up, including the Europa League tie against Sevilla.

Moyes says that there aren’t a great amount of young players available to him in the squad who could make the step into the first-team.

Indeed, he has confirmed that Harrison Ashby is currently injured, and that the club are unlikely to raid the U23s for players who can step into the first-team.

He told reporters: “We don’t have loads of youngsters, and even those who can step in like Harrison Ashby has done his hamstring about three weeks ago so he is struggling.

“We have got one or two around who are doing okay, but it will mainly be the group of players that we have got.

We will be needing them to step up and show what they can do, and to be fair for most of the season they have done really well.

I will be asking for me and driving them on and pushing for more better performances generally. Let’s hope we can do that.”

  1. Ah well there goes my optimism. Never thought he would. Boring same same

  2. Predictably sad response DM.

  3. No surprise: same old, same old.

  4. That’s disappointing. Why are they funding an Academy, it seems a waste of money as really we don’t see the numbers that the outlay suggest (appx £3m)
I guess he likes golden oldies

  5. We have some fantastic energetic youngsters. Why moyes is against playing some of them is beyond me. Dinosaur tactics as usual !! Need a manager with some guts

  6. 3 million doesn’t sound a lot when thinking about the club’s future. Sounds like we are just going to buy, buy and buy players like we did a few years back. Look where that got us- further in debt. We used to have the best Academy- Chelsea are streets ahead.

  7. It’s incredible that Moyes comes out with kind off statement. Not the first time he’s be littled players now the promising youngsters. They are 2nd in the table, what more can they do . Moyes doesn’t take a gamble with the u23s instead he gambles with some of the worst footballers in the PL. You only have to look at Elanga at Man U. Given a chance and now excelling.
