Moyes set to face ‘one one that got away’

Moyes set to face midfielder he wanted above any other

When West Ham faces Everton tomorrow, they might come up against a player David Moyes almost signed. The Hammers will visit Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon for a Premier League clash, with Everton hoping to secure a home win after their hard-fought 1-1 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion. Billy Gilmour received a red card for a nasty tackle on a Toffees player who very nearly ended up playing in claret and blue.

Manager Sean Dyche is expected to stick with the 4-4-1-1 formation and make one change to his starting line-up. Amadou Onana is likely to feature from the start, having been a top transfer target for West Ham and Moyes at the start of the 2022/23 season. Negotiations took place, but the deal eventually fell through, leading Onana to join Everton instead.

In midfield, Onana will partner with James Garner, aiming to disrupt a West Ham team who were much improved against Brentford. On the flanks, Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison will look to make an impact on the left and right, respectively.

Abdoulaye Doucoure will take up the number ten role, responsible for creating chances in the final third. However, Idrissa Gueye is unlikely to recover in time for the game, while Ashley Young may start on the bench but could be called upon to make an impact in the second half if needed.
