Moyes singles Lingard out

David Moyes has singled out Jesse Lingard for praise after the Hammers lost 2-1 to Manchester City.

Every single player gave everything against the soon-to-be Premier League champions as they moved 13 points clear.

Mikey Antonio got on the scoresheet for the Irons, levelling things up after Ruben Dias’ opener, but John Stones broke Hammers’ hearts with a coolly-taken winner.

Issa Diop had the chance to equalise again in injury time but his header flew wide and the Irons were left disappointed, having more than matched Pep Guardiola’s megabucks outfit.

Lingard was particularly impressive, continually trying to get on the ball and make things happen and driving us forward.

He has been a star ever since his loan move from Manchester United and while he didn’t score again today, he did set the tone with his constant willingness to take the ball and try to find an opening.

Moyes was impressed with his display and let him know it in his post-match press conference.

As quoted by Football.London, he said: “He has brought us quality, over the years he has shown his level and he can play several roles for us, he takes the ball he is someone who can open the game for us.

“He has helped the players around him develop, I have been really pleased with him.”
