Moyes so happy with the return of big two

|

David Moyes admitted he’s have thought people were kidding if they had claimed the Hammers could make the top ten following his arrival.

But after a really determined and at times classy performance from the Irons against Watford he said: ”  It’s great credit to the players. We want to keep improving.

He told BBC Match of the Day: “There’s not that big a points difference between 11th, 10th and ninth. When I took over we were in the relegation zone, I’d have said ‘you’re kidding’ if you said we could get into the top 10 when I took over.

He was delighted to see big guns Arnie and Michail Antonio back saying: “”We needed them back. All teams need their best players.

“I thought we started really well. We were very wary of Watford after their performance and result against Chelsea. That was a concern but we nullified them.

“We have threats in attacking areas – Javier Hernandez, Michail Antonio and Marko Arnautovic – which ultimately hurt them in the end.”

“I wasn’t so happy with our second half. We didn’t win much and I thought Watford were first to most things. But we defended well enough. We still merited it, we stuck at it and got the job done.”

Arnie and Antonio fully deserve their top billing today. They were swinging. Keep those two fit and when Lanzini comes back later this month, top 10 is a realistic target.

The more we play this season the more you realise possession is not our strong suit we should defend deep and counter if we want results, next season by all means look at other options but this season just defend and counter imho.

I think the defense today was as immense as it has been all season. Even though Watford have some tricky players who stuck Chelski to the sword last week, they didn’t really create much against our defense apart from that one free kick.

Ogbonna and Collins were outstanding. How they haven’t given Ginge another contract already defies me. I can’t see how Reid and Fonte are going to break in to the squad with those 2 playing as solid as that??
