David Moyes had made it very clear indeed that he believes Jeremy Ngakia has shot himself in the foot with his decision not to stay at the club declaring he is “surprised and disappointed” at his decision to quit the club.
The Evening Standard https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/david-moyes-exclusive-west-ham-jeremy-ngakia-a4463491.html report the manager as saying: “We are really surprised and disappointed that Jeremy is not going to stay at West Ham.
“We like him a lot, we’ve given him his debut and I’m a manager who has done that many times in my career, including Wayne Rooney, Ross Barkley, Jordan Pickford and others.
“Jeremy is another one and I feel he is making a mistake choosing not to stay with us. We’ve trusted him in big games and everyone likes him at the club.
“I also feel it’s a kick in the teeth for the academy, because they have developed a player for the first team and he’s not going to stay. We’re also really disappointed with his decision not to stay beyond June 30.
“I don’t agree with that and I also think it’s something the Premier League should not allow to happen, because it means the season is not starting and finishing in the same way.
ClaretandHugh says: Well said Moysie. You have said precisely what needed saying. We cam all call out whoever we want on this one – the boy, his agent or in some cases there will be those criticising the club. But it’s very difficult to understand how a 19 year old academy graduate with the merest number of first team performances behind him can expect to go elsewhere and become a first team regular. The club, having developed him, have every right to feel disappointed at a decision to neither stay long term or at the very least extend his contract until the end of the season. Former academy chief Terry Westley told CandH in a blog on the subject that the lad was making a mistake -now Moyes has said the same thing – and with the sort of experience behind them those two have I think we can trust their judgement. Bad move Jeremy.
Some you win some you lose.
Am new to these Ngakia threads.
Has it actually been CONFIRMED what the lad was offered, or are his wage demands as disclosed by a ‘club source’?
Bad advice ? Maybe
Let’s see where he ends up, I have a suspicion that he might go to Germany and follow in some of the other youngsters footsteps. Top German clubs are actively scouting all the prospects in this country and throwing money at them on the chance of selling them back in 2-3 years for huge money. Also no compensation if he moves overseas so more in his agents pocket.
They call it opportunity but they are just following the Chelsea model ( if it’s not Chelsea doing it again).
Anyone supporting this club knows that all the good youngsters leave sooner or later, this one has chosen sooner!
Hugh – would be interesting to know what compensation we could demand for him. If they’re under 21 and offered greater or equal terms to existing contract then you can demand compensation. 19 years old broken into first team. Surely £5 million compensation as a minimum?
At this age it has to go to arbitration first mate where the fee is set
Thanks for letting me know
🙂
Maybe not the whole agents fault as if your stupid enough to not see what a club has done for you and getting money most 19yr olds would dream of and older people too then just jog on son and I shall not wish you all the best and hope you follow oxfords path to obscurity.
As with so many other WHU fans, I am disappointed by Ngakia’s lack of loyalty. However, his skill set has yet to stand the test of time and we are better off to be done with him now.
Look forward to Ben Johnston having a real first team run.
Do us all a favour, stop writing about the former academy player and allow his drift to obscurity.
i understand the disappointment on losing him but if the lad is not fully focused on relegation let him go i also feel agents have a big part in this situation perhaps the league should find a way to outlaw these outcomes not all teams are not in financial position to pay big wages and the current virus will make transfers perhaps not high prices and wages give a level playing field bt what about old fashioned loyalty to clubs that develop these lads if they realise that if your good enough you wil get your just deserts spoken by a longlife of football fan and a hard working individual
He’s going to Arsenal.
Jeremy I suspect you have made a decision that benefits your agent more than you. Academy graduate who is respected by the manager sufficient to put you in the first team – why so keen to throw that away with indecent haste? Sorry to lose you.
