Moyes: ‘Stupid’ to go all out

|

David Moyes insists West Ham would be “stupid” to go all guns blazing in the second leg of their Europa League Round of 16 clash against Sevilla.

The Hammers go into the game 1-0 down after Munir scored the only goal in the first leg in Spain.

It means the Irons have to score twice in normal time if they are to progress to the quarter-finals, but Moyes maintains that the Hammers have to be clever about how they approach the game, and insists that there is no intention of going all-out attack at the London Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the game, as per Football.London, Moyes said: “Well I think the word for that would be stupid because we have to play with maturity and experience which we do not have in this competition, we do not have experience of playing a game over two legs and we’re understanding how to play the second game, which is new for us, but we’ve done everything we can.

“We’ve given bits of experience from being in it. I would more hope we’re going to show a mature performance throughout the game and be able to adapt to situations.

“We’ve got to make sure we get a result at home in 90 minutes – that’s the first thing I’m focused on.”

He also maintains that there is next to no pressure on the game for the Hammers, because of how much they have achieved already this season.

The Irons, of course, are making a real effort to qualify for Europe once again this season after going close to reaching the Champions League last term.

He added: “I see this as an incredible achievement for West Ham to be in this position, from where we’ve been in the past. Our league position is incredibly positive, I have to say for the cup competitions and the league position, we’re in a great position. All season we have attempted to challenge and win, we are trying to improve and get a better side.

“I think the players are showing great resilience and our character’s been unquestionable in the games. I hope they remain that way between now and the end of the season.”

I think it will also be stupid to not start with a high tempo. Get the crowd going. A slow will play into Sevilla hands.
We have enough experienced internationals to cope.
