Moyes: Sullivan Stole My Contract!

Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham United team have just two days to prepare for Saturdays ‘must-win’ crisis match against Everton, which has already been somewhat cruelly labelled ‘El Sackio 2 – the sequel’ owing the the high stakes for both Sean Dyche and our own Lopetegui.

Former Manager David Moyes has added somewhat to the drama of the occasion, adding in hitherto-undisclosed details about his own road to the exit door at West Ham which began last winter. He was negotiating with West Ham’s chairman, remember, over a ‘new deal’ following the 2023 triumph in the Europa Conference League.

West Ham apparently originally made a new offer to Moyes in December 2023: As he reveals as part of the ‘stick to football’ podcast, reported in today’s Dailymail.co.uk: “The Scot claimed West Ham chairman David Sullivan revoked the original contract offer” in a massive about-face following bad losses.

Moyes goes onto explain: “We [West Ham] beat Arsenal on December 28, at The Emirates, and that day the club had offered me a new contract. We then went on a three-game losing streak, lost to Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, and I hadn’t signed the contract as I wasn’t sure if I should stay.

The contract wasn’t a great contract, but David Sullivan withdrew the contract just off the back of those results”

And the rest, as they say, is history. What Moyes omits, I think, when he says ‘the contract wasn’t a great contract’ is that it was as ‘head coach’ under Steidten not as a ‘Manager’ with all – encompassing control.

Which is why he didn’t sign it.

Intriguing that David Sullivan issued, and then tore up a contract offer in such a rapid U turn: How close did we come to getting three more years of Moyesball?

  • Moyes Mum says:

I think Moyes was going to walk anyway because he wasn’t happy with the contract he’d been offered. He didn’t like the introduction of Steidten. He wanted to be a manager not a coach. When you think about it a manager gets sacked on the back of the efforts of his players so might at least like to know he’s getting sacked thanks to his own choices and not somebody else’s players.

“Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham United team have just two days to prepare for Saturdays ‘must-win’ crisis match against Everton”

Well we’ve not had just 2 days have we? We’ve had the whole week.

I was wishing JLo’s reign only had two days left! Got excited about what I wished for then 🤣🤣

  • Iron Ed says:

Moyes is being a bit slippery here. Those three losses he’s talking about (man u, forrest, arsenal) came after we’d already been **** for a month and gone out the cup to a champ side. You can see why he tries to usher them off the subject when they say “so three games after beating arsenal they took it away?”

Bloke is very good at sounding sincere while talking not a small degree of bo@@@@@@@@

    • Matt says:

Let Moyes play his 🤏🎻 and put himself in the shop window for a new job 🤣 Pleased he is throwing shade at Sully for the simple reason it rules him out from coming back. Small mercies & all that 🙏 Let him return to Everton

    • Matt says:

Poor 🦖 Moyes 🤣🤣🤣 Let him play his tiny violin 🤏🎻 and put himself back in the Everton shop window! Moyes throwing shade at Sully hopefully means no way back to West Ham. Small mercies and all that!

Seems my post got deleted but why?!

Can we look forward and talk about Sebastien as a potential new manager?

Surely C&H are not fragile enough to delete posts that are pro Tim and suggesting Sully made a big mistake with JLo 🤷‍♂️

    • Alan'sDevonshireCream says:

No it’s not that Matt….they did the same with a few of my comments stating as a reason that I wasn’t allowed to post any links to other articles to show evidence of my opinion. However, I searched high and low through their guidelines and the whole website….and absolutely nowhere does it mention that posting links to other articles isn’t allowed, especially seeing as they do it regularly as well. Anyway, just thought I’d mention it so you were aware 👍

      • Matt, he’s here, he’s there, he’s not allowed to swear 🤣🤣🤣🤣 says:

        Cheers, much appreciated Alan 👍

It seems weblinks can be posted as I’ve since added it again 🤷‍♂️ Like you I’d seen Martin Treasure post links to back up C&H stories.

Martin kindly explained my use of the English language might be why some of my previous posts disappeared 🤐🤣

        • Martin Treasure says:

weblinks will disappear, sometimes if I have time and nothing better to do I’ll rescue them for you but please- best avoided.

          • Matt says:

I’ve only used that weblink when posting. It was such a well written argument for why Sebastien Hoeness is going to get a top job soon. Hopefully it’s West Ham ⚒️

      • Matt says:

I’m very interested what you think of my preferred choice to hopefully replace JLo after the Everton game ….. 👀👇

  • Matt says:

It’s done, we moved on and it’s time to forget the past & focus on our future.

Really keen Martin to have an objective discussion on what happens next and not talk about what can’t be changed.

I sent you a weblink on your last post mate and genuinely interested in your opinion. Please reply to me on your JWP post as talking about Moyes is just a waste of time. Let the Daily Mail be divisive and talk about the past

Dwelling on the past is a waste of time. I’m sure all West Ham fans want to focus on a brighter future.

    • Gonzo says:

      Hi Matt, Gonzo here mate.

We can’t ignore this story mate. it’s all over Sky Sports and is a hot topic because Moyes has just done the interview with Roy Keane & Gary Neville. The club have briefed pretty much everyone that they’re looking at replacements if Lopetegui loses on Sunday so its relevant. The Guardian have been briefed by the club and run a big piece on it this morning.

There are plenty of articles looking forward to the weekend and beyond, but as I hope you’ll understand, we can’t just report one things whilst pretending that another West Ham story which is gaining traction isn’t happening.

All West Ham fans want a brighter future, no doubt about it. But to suggest nobody is interested in Moyes revealing his interactions with Sullivan just isn’t true mate.

Anyway, thanks for the polite post Matt . . .it’s much appreciated. West Ham will always provide plenty to talk about, that’s for sure.

      • Matt says:

I get why it got posted but I’m now frustrated my post about Sebastien Hoenes got deleted!

Was it because I suggested Tim would’ve recommended him to Sully prior to Sully’s massive error with JLo 🤔 Maybe because I said same mistake twice, release clause with Amorin?

I really want to talk about our future and think this manager is perfect 👀👇

        https://jamesrenton10.medium.com/the-case-for-sebastian-hoene%C3%9F-to-replace-erik-ten-hag-63310d04bfed

Can we talk about this guy rather than Moyes 🙏

      • Matt says:

        Hey mate,

I get why it’s news, Moyes still has a lot friends on tv and the media. I’m sure he wants to play his little violin 🎻 and make out all us fans are idiots. 🥱

Sounds like he is preparing himself for a new job and wants to throw shade at West Ham. I could bang on about who we missed out on in the summer but that is wasted energy.

I want JLo gone asap and hope we get Hoenes regardless of a release clause. Hoping JLo will be history like Moyes by Sunday.

I’m the same as you and all the writers and fans that take time to air our thoughts about the club we love.

Talking about Moyes now is about exciting as watching his team last season 🥱 😴 💤 but I get it 😂
