Moyes talks up the academy

David Moyes has declared that he believes the Hammers has a good academy.

Despite there having been few youngsters breaking through under his management, the boss remains convinced that the grass roots of the club is fine.

Having admitted that money should not be the be all and end all in building a top club, the manager is clearly keen to develop the group.

Following the game against Viborg on Thursday he made his position clear he told reporters: “I think West Ham have got a good academy.”

But he added: Also, we’re not always shopping in Harrods, sometimes we shop in Aldi, if that is the right way to put it. I think that is part of it.

While we are always building the club, we will be looking to buy players at different levels and trying to challenge the big boys and because of that, we know we need to try and get some top players.”

  1. Bit of a funny way of showing it Mr Moyes. Quite a core of talent has been shipped out, either on loan or permanently, with others being mentioned. Having spent two seasons putting the odd few on the first team bench whilst never giving anyone even one minute on the pitch is hardly the best way to communicate to the young players that you rate them. Time to give it some proper thought?

  2. On a different topic. Email invitation to buy European Conference package; as ever, the link does not work so ring ticket office. Hang on fo 2hours and 5 minutes, working down to caller number six and then cut off! My club cash expires on Tuesday – is that not a form of theft? I despair of this club, which I have been watcking for 71 years. I do not have a smartphone so getting it to send me a physical season card took months of (mainly unanswered) emails and a visit in person. Eventually I was sent TWO cards – neither of which worked at the turnstile and required the intervention of a Ticket Office person there!
I really feel infuriated with club.

  3. Club cash always had an expiry date. Always worth reading the terms and conditions and not making assumptions. Link to the 3 game package worked perfectly, just got to know what you’re doing. Go to the reserved tickets area of your ticketing profile and everything done in less than 3 mins.
