Moyes thinks Irons can challenge!

David Moyes says West Ham can challenge the best teams in the Premier League after the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.

The Hammers fought tooth and nail against the runaway Premier League leaders.

Goals from Ruben Dias and John Stones gave Pep Guardiola’s side victory in the end but Mikey Antonio’s goal and the last-minute chance from Issa Diop gave the league leaders a mighty fright!

The result means the Irons may have lost ground in the race to qualify for the Champions League but Moyes is taking heart from the performance, insisting that we can go toe-to-toe with the best teams in the league.

Speaking after the game, as quoted by Football.London, he said: “We didn’t get the point to go with our performance but we have shown we can challenge the top teams, whether it is City, Man United or Liverpool.

“I hope it gives the players confidence.”

He added: “There is a great self-belief in the squad but we are not getting carried away. I want to praise the players for how well they did against the best team in Europe.”

City are now a staggering 13 points clear and they have won 20 games in succession in all competitions.

They are almost certain to be lifting the Premier League trophy at the end of the season; the real question is whether the Irons will still be in the top four when they do.

Keep playing like we did today, and we just might be!

  1. Cant see why no at all The worst fixture to play is now done. And they could have got something out of the game. Forget the so called big six. We almost matched the big one.

  2. Yep, great effort from 12 of our hammers today. Very pleasing to see them play like that. Just a shame noone sent the ball out of play sooner for Bowen and Benrahma to come on earlier. There was a real change in energy once they stepped onto the pitch.. you could almost smell a goal coming.. (if only Diop’s head was 1/2″ more to the right) 🙂

  3. More than happy with the performance and as a result only the west Londoners can knock us off 4th spot and they have to beat the red side of Manchester to do that. COYI
