Moyes to avoid players with attitude

David Moyes insists he will swerve signing players with big egos even if the club do manage to qualify for the Champions League this season.

The Hammers are currently fourth in the Premier League table but go into this weekend’s game against Manchester United well aware that a defeat would see them drop out of the qualification places.

United are seventh and two points behind the Irons, with one game in hand, while Arsenal, in sixth, are level with United but with two games in hand.

Spurs, in fifth, have three games in hand and are one point back, but the Irons remain hopeful of managing to seal qualification to Europe’s elite club competition.

Even still, Moyes maintains that he will not sign players who are “d***heads”, as he bids to ensure the Irons’ squad remains harmonious.

He told reporters: “That’s a really good question because I don’t think any manager wants d***heads. And I don’t know if you can correlate d***heads with  big egos, there is a difference. You can have a big ego and not be a d***head but I get your point.

“We are still building here at West Ham. We have to keep putting a few layers on before we can be talked about as challenging. If possible I would like to give the West Ham supporters someone else they can shout about, someone else they can see a continued line of us trying to keep it going.

“But what I don’t want to do is waste any money. I would rather keep it and pay bigger for someone next summer if I have to rather than waste it on someone that I might not use at the moment.”
