Moyes unfairly criticised for subsitutions

This contribution table suggests that David Moyes use of substitutes is better than he is given credit for.

The West Ham is often much maligned and criticised for his substitutions by commentators and supporters on social media but a new table paints a different picture. After Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea,  West Ham substitutes made the fourth impact on a game contributing to three goals and five assists.

This goes some way to vindicate the manager’s tactical decisions in his substitutions even though they are not understood by fans at the time.

Moyes has a reputation of being cautious with his changes often underutilising substitutes but that seems to have changed this season.

Jarrod Bowen remains the most substituted player in the Premier League having been subbed off by the Gaffer a total of 21 times the 2020/2021 season so far.

Pablo Fornals has been substituted off 12 times in the same period with Michail Antonio at 10.

  1. Weren’t all 3 goals at Spurs away?

  2. If he had substituted Dawson and Soucek earlier would we have had an extra two goals to our advantage 😉

  3. If his substitutions had been better & more timely we’d probably be top of that list.
