Moyes unready to give new contract decision

David Moyes has made it clear he is unready to give a decision on whether he will sign a new contract at West Ham.

No contract decision from Moyes.

Mind you, the same is true of the Hammers board who have made it clear they will watch how things go this season before starting talks with the Scot.

There was much discussion in the summer that the manager may decide to go out on a high after the Conference victory in Prague. The board even suggested that may be the case and the arrival of a new technical director was thought to have caused Moyes some concern to the point where he was thinking through his own possible departure. In the end he decided to stay having seen the board stick behind him in the face of some heavy fan pressure to remove him from the job.

Moyes reluctant to give decision on contract

Now, however, he remains reluctant to give a firm decision on whether he sees another spell at the club as part of his agenda.

Speaking to the Mail he said: ‘At the moment I’m fine. I’m only focused on the team doing well, keeping us going and keeping the focus on that. I’m sure there’ll be a time that comes when we’ll discuss it  but I’m happy to go along just now and see what happens.’

He insists however he had no intention of walking away in the summer declaring: ‘No, because I thought ‘my goodness, I’m just at the start’. I always believe the best is still to come. I had to believe that when we had difficult times, and I’m actually now saying ‘wow, look how good I’ve got the team at the moment’.

‘I genuinely think we are going to keep going along on that line. I always think the best part of me is I can build football clubs, and I think I can give them a level of stability. I think West Ham probably needed that when I came in and there are signs of that on the field and off the field, and I hope we can continue to grow it.
