Moyes unsure on Dawson future

David Moyes has admitted that he is unsure if Craig Dawson will remain at West Ham beyond the transfer deadline on Thursday.

The Hammers defender has been linked with a potential exit from the club in recent days.

Aston Villa have been credited with an interest in the 32-year-old, whose contract is expiring at the end of the season, while Wolves are also said to be monitoring developments.

Moyes has now revealed that he isn’t sure if Dawson will be staying at the club.

Speaking ahead of the derby with Spurs on Wednesday, as per Football.London, he said: “Well he’s had an injury for the best part of four or five weeks.

“He is back training now. Ideally, we wouldn’t (sell him) but it’s probably a much more complicated situation than what it is so it is an ongoing thing at the moment and we’ll just have to see how it goes.”

Dawson was a key player for the Hammers last season as the Irons reached the Europa League semi-finals but the Irons are exploring a loan deal for Southampton’s Jan Bednarek, who could operate as a potential replacement for the former Watford ace.

The current fit options at centre-back are Thilo Kehrer, Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna.

  1. Would we go for Bednarak if Dawes goes , do we know what’s up with him ! He’s been great for us but feel we would need cover !

  2. Great player for us despite the initial reservations
A real leader on and off the pitch that players look up to. I will be sad to see him leave but if his reasons are family I fully understand

  3. He has been a rock in our defence for two seasons and is much more valuable to us than a couple of mill fee. However, if he needs to move north for family reasons he has earned consideration.

  4. This situation is both sad and strange. Supporting West Ham, I feel like an underdog and like most supporters, I wasn’t best pleased when he turned up instead of some superstar.
But Craig Dawson (the underdog) singlehandedly taught me a footballing lesson and played a significant role in the recent revival of this club. Craig Dawson will have to go down as one of the best bits of business this club has done in recent years. A very underrated footballer with the strength of character and personality. He will be missed.
But, If he has to leave for family reasons, then so be it, he will always be remembered by us and always welcome at this club.

  5. Dont sell him!….If it all goes pear shaped then players like Dawson will be like gold dust…He has saved us countless times…For me he has to stay.

  6. I feel that a big reason why we have made such a poor start to the season is the absence of Daws. We have missed him not only in defence but also in attacking set pieces where I feel he is our most dangerous player.
