David Moyes insists that he wants Mikey Antonio to turn into a “killer” like Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Hammers take on Manchester United this weekend and the Irons will have to try to keep the Portuguese superstar quiet if they are to have any chance of taking all three points.
Ronaldo already has three goals in two games for United, scoring twice on his debut against Newcastle and then also netting in the defeat to Young Boys in the Champions League.
Moyes believes that the former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar is the perfect type of striker, and is hoping Mikey can reach his level with the Hammers.
He told reporters: “He’s an unbelievable sort of killer, as far as scoring goals. I hope we can turn Mickey Antonio into a killer of a goal scorer because Ronaldo started as a wide player, and ended up becoming a terrific number nine, so I hope that we can do the same with Mic in the years to come.
“But, Ronaldo is an excellent player he has brought another level of excitement to the Premier League, and we will do everything we can to keep him quiet.”
Moyes has also confirmed that he never tried to sign Ronaldo when he was United boss.
He added: “No he hadn’t long left, I would like to say yes. But no.”
