Moyes wants Irons to become powerhouse of London

David Moyes hasn’t got anything wrong this season but his latest memories or comments he may have heard from others  seem a little suspect to those of us who have been around this old club for a while.

That’a not to say his  ambitions aren’t very welcome but when he claims there may have been a time when we were the top team in London we may be going back to the famous middle 80s and just one season!

John Lyall’s boys of ’86 managed third and there were the days in the middle 60s when we won the FA Cup, Cup Winners Cup and the World Cup LOL.

But when Moysie uses expressions in which he says we were the powerhouse in London I’m afraid I’m struggling!

Mind you there’s nothing wrong at all with his sentiments which demonstrate how much he wants this club to succeed and that is the ambition he declares.

Commenting on www.whufc.com he says: “I believe that West Ham were a powerhouse in London and the period the supporters will remember well was when they were the top team in London. We’ve got to aim to get back to that – I don’t see why it shouldn’t be our ambition.

If it’s something that has to be done overnight, I don’t know if there’s any manager in the world who could do that, because you have to build up players.

First of all, we have to get in a strong position to attract good players to come. If we can make European football, I think coming to West Ham, coming to London, coming to a Club in Europe will be much more attractive as well. All of those things have to get added.

I think players want to see a stable Club, a consistent Club, and a Club with a vision and a plan going forward.”

We were a powerhouse in London even if only fleetingly, support wise we have been for a very long time, I welcome the ambition and that it is allied to attracting better quality players that have the right attitude. In the unlikely case that we do stay in top 4 we will need 5 or 6 more at Lingards level to even have a shot. We need sustained investment over several seasons such as Everton and Leicester have done to be in the mix but there is an opportunity, Utd / Tottenham / Arsenal even Chelsea are all beatable by most teams in the league, other than City all places are up for grabs if we are consistent COYI!!!

The stuff of dreams – being above, well above, Arsenal. Keep on doing what we’re doing and London Powerhouse can become a reality. Start trying to outspend and look like Chelsea and we’re doomed to fail. Let’s stay in our own mould. New players – yes but only if they suit our current style. We’re flying high. Strap in. Enjoy the flight.
