Moyes wants quality not quantity

David Moyes wants to sign quality players before the transfer window closes on 5th October and is not interested in mediocre players often put forward by desperate agents just trying to take their commission.

Moyes is keen to avoid mistakes of previous West Ham managers who agreed to sign players suggested by favoured agents and/or presents from the board.

The 57-year-old Scot is his own man and wants to do things professionally and doesn’t like to be rushed as he carries out full due diligence before committing to signing new players.

He has turned down numerous agent suggestions in this window including a young centre back from Manchester City and a South American striker on loan.

The manager has no interest in just filling squad places for the sake of it and only wants players who can improve the squad and hit the ground running.

That strategy is likely to frustrate the board and the supporter base but the gaffer wants quality and not quantity when it comes to players he signs off on and puts his name to.

There are 17 days until the transfer window closes.

  1. Frustrates Board ?Trying to hang Moyes out to dry ?It’s not “dithering Dave “But “Dithering Dave’s “!Ask Eintracht Frankfurt !They are STILL waiting for the £5.2 million installment on the Haller transfer fee ! 🙂 But all is not lost ,we still have some great talent in the team .It is the managers job to get the best out of the talent we’ve got .When you have a benchisting of Yarmolenko,,Haller,Lanzini and Anderson then something is wrong .If we sit back against Arsenal we will get murdered,we’ve got the players to attack them ,so lets do just that .! We are more than a football Club,we’re a way of life !COYI!!

  2. I hope this is true, I back Moyes completely here if this is his stance. I would prefer not to sign anyone if we are just signing average players. I was very disappointed with his team selection last weekend and I expect changes this weekend but to be fair to him he has not been backed by the owners. He needs to be given the backing and then we can really see if he is the correct manager for us. I have also thought he is too negative in his team selections (as shown last weekend) and I also feel he also does not make changes quick enough during games. But if he gets the right players in this may negate this somewhat. I am hopeful as I am hopeful that we do not see Fredericks or Noble in the starting team this weekend.

  3. Ryan Manning (QPR LB) not in their squad today and not injuried. Decent LB accordong to my QPR friend, 24 years old so a Moyes type signing. Let’s see..

    • Sorry no thanks if we are looking at Manning we are in dire trouble, no where strong enough to play in the PL, good technical but will be caught out defensively. He started out as a winger, did not cut it and converted to a LB. He is 100% not what we are looking for.

  4. The only thing holding up our progress as a club are the current owners. As supporters, it is obvious that we are keen to see fresh payers brought in, but NOT at the expense of quality.
But we must all at this point in time understand that after the way this club has been run and managed by our current owners for years, we have to start to do things differently.
David Moyes being Pragmatic has a well thought out plan that we are all ready to buy into. A young, energetic, skilful side where our best youth players are able to see a path of progression to the first team and us as supporters can be proud of our legacy once again.
I totally agree that Moyes shouldn’t allow this club to be dragged into this agent led nonsense….. which ultimately leaves the club with end of the road players looking for a final payday from this club, whilst putting in sporadic performances.
All we need now is chairmen that buy into that philosophy.

  5. While the lack of signings is frustrating , one of our most disappointing seasons was the first at the London stadium where I think we got about 10 new players including Feghouli, Goklan Tore, Arbeola and Zaza. It will be interesting to see how players with whom we were linked such as Cedric Kipre do in the Premier league
