Moyes wants to adopt German club model

|

David Moyes wants West Ham to adopt the RB Leipzig German model to invest in young upcoming stars.

This summer the Hammers manager plans to identify and buy three to four young League One or two players for less than a million pounds each in the hope of developing some future stars of the Premier in one to two years time.

Leipzig has a saying from Socrates which is “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new” Socrates believed that in order to change, one has to accept it. He emphasised that instead of harping on lost time, change should inspire us to build something new which can inspire others.

The German club’s philosophy on building something new has achieved success by investing in players between the ages 17-24 and has established ultra-modern training facilities including an indoor artificial turf sprint track to gauge players’ strength and speed. An indication of their impressive youth system is that they now have players who represent Germany at every age group.

Not a bad model to aspire to want to emulate at West Ham.

We could start by trying to get Hanlon from Gillingham.

I’m sorry but I happen to think that Joe Allen will do a good job for us and he certainly can’t do a worse job than Sanchez.I also believe that the likes of Cullen and Coventry et al will eventually get their chance under Moyse.

  • Ben Saunders says:

I’ve noticed all this wanting a quality midfielder when we have Cullen, Coventry, Powell, Kemp and Lewis all willing to run their heart out for the club. Where’s their chance?.

Let’s hope Moyes has his way. It makes obvious sense. But scouting will need to be improved. We seem to have a constant stream of young players who fail to make the grade.

This would involve substantial long term capital investment -‘established ultra modern training facilities ‘- and this is an area where we appear to be considerably behind many clubs. it is a very sound way to run a club but I doubt our Board would be prepared to invest the kind of money building the initial infrastructure would take. Not only facilities, but putting in place a really extensive and effective scouting set up again something we don’t currently have if reports are to be believed. It would also mean Sullivan having little or nothing to do with the running of the club as this would be left to qualified professionals.

A great idea but just can’t see it suiting GSB for all kinds of reasons.

Definitely, the model that suits this club and a sustainable way of moving forward. Which also means that young players of ability will ALSO be attracted to us, be that to our academy or from other clubs, in order to get the chance to play. You will obviously need to buy the occasional older player with experience to play alongside the younger players, but let’s hope some of our supporters don’t take this too literally.

Three Jordan Hugills with zero potential . Total waste of money . Totally unconvinced by his buying strategy and his eye for a player. Need a director of football to control his shortcomings. Probalbly why he didnt get job in first place after his quality buy last time out.

Nice to have a philosophical post Sean, Socrates had some great quotes, the wisest person in the world is the one that knows he knows nothing. Not bad for someone who played football for Brazil 😉

  • James Gunn says:

Ah yes, I’m sure our 5 scouts (or is it 4 now?) are definitely capable of unearthing PL-quality gems 😂😂😂 That why we’re going after Joe Allen and Giroud even though players like Berge are available?

  • Good Ole Daze says:

There are a lot of other attractive fetaures about German football – lower ticket prices, fan ownership, rail seating systems etc.. It’s encouraging, in my opinion, that the man some hailed as a backward step or a dinosaur is keen to look to our future development – not as a legacy or vanity project for him – but for the longer-term benefit of our club as a whole. He’s only 2 games in, but so far so good. COYI

You only need to read to the part about investing in training facilities to know that this will never happen at West Ham with the current board they do not invest in infrastructure

At last a man with a vision; the furthest the last bloke could see was his cup of bedtime cocoa!! COYI’s

Where does Joe Allen and Darren Randolph fit into this ?

    Oh yeah. Cheap it is!
