Moyes war chest questions

|

By Dave Langton

Daniel Kretinsky’s investment in West Ham has all but confirmed that the club will have plenty of money to spend in the summer and, potentially, in the final week of the transfer window.

The billionaire has said that the club will not splash the cash in the first few windows but there it is  there for the Irons and Moysie.

The Hammers boss has the final say on all transfers and a deal will only be done if Moyes says yes.

And maybe  there’s something to be said for the fact that all of his best signings at Everton cost under £7m!

Looking through Transfermarkt.com, it becomes clear that he isn’t a guy at splashing big cash in a big way.

Leighton Baines, Johnny Heitinga, Joleon Lescott, Phil Jagielka, Joseph Yobo, Phil Neville, Tim Howard, John Stones, Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill all cost under £7m.

Even at West Ham, one of his best signings, has been Vlad Coufal and he was less than £5m too.

It is an intriguing question with the summer window looming; can Moyes actually be the man to wield the war chest?

Based on his past record we have  our doubts as to whether he’ll be splashing the cash!

Moyesie is a canny operator he knows we need more recruits to the squad to keep us competitive in the PL/Europa and FA cup – but I think he has a very delicate balance to play – clearly he wants the top quality targets however they look either very difficult or very expensive to get now (with Jan cycle premiums built in) – I am sure he would prefer to wait until the summer when the prices (for Lingard/Tarkowski/Johnston the W Brom keeper/others etc) will be on frees. But by then our fate in CL, Europa etc will have been sealed and we may not be such an attractive option for the top players to join us (and he may come under further immense pressure for a Bowen and Rice sale who want to go challenge with the top 4 and in the CL etc) I am sure Its not easy for him – and he seems to be trying with the try to buy scheme Lets hope he can work some magic and get some in.

But we are competing for a place in Europe and Moyes has no plan b in any matches because he doesn’t have any players good enough for a plan b and he may be a canny Scott but he has bought plenty of crap in his time

Another Stones for under 7mill would help.
With only 2 more working days to go in the window there are still possibilities. But will we end up with players the fans will say Why such and such and will he/they fit in?
Without new players can’t see us getting very far in either Prem or EL. Not saying the current squad isn’t good enough- just that they’ve given their all so far this campaign and with accumulating injuries the 2 nd half of the season looks too much of an uphill climb.

It’s a worry for me , we have CL to aim for we need signings in this window to achieve that . Any injuries would really affect our chances as we have no cover in key areas . Moyes needs to act fast it’s getting beyond a joke this late in the window ⚒

In Moyes we trust. At all times, there are ‘secret’ plans being hatched by David Moyes and his coaching and scouting staff that will be one or two transfer windows in the future. Moyes’s backroom staff will know which players are here to stay, which ones are here for the short term and those that will leave much sooner than we think. They also know exactly the type of players West Ham need and when. They will soon have a larger kitty to work with, which will make the job easier. All the media and fans’ speculating makes no difference to who the club signs this week or next summer – which is why I’ve stopped reading the forums and tuning in to the various podcasts and live streams that are out there, as they only waste my time. I’m sitting back and waiting to see what happens….. and I’m trusting in Moyes. West Ham can’t (yet) compete with Manchester City on or off the pitch, but they’re getting closer.
