Moyes warning was always on the cards

Shock on the way for Moyes?

By Hughie Southon

West Ham’s quote to CandH yesterday that performances and results will have to improve comes as no big surprise.

Until yesterday the word was that Moyes is entirely safe in his job and most who have been involved in the game for any length of time know that is the standard position from clubs when the team is in trouble.

The rights and wrongs of the current situation have been discussed ad nauseum on the forums but the reality is the board will ultimately move should they need to…that’s the way it works.

They spent a lot of money in the summer and with the danger of player assets being devalued via a poor season it is clear that’s what will happen.

We were told that there was no truth in stories suggesting agents were promoting possible managers to the board but that obviously things had to get better.

The board probably have it right for now but let’s not be unduly surprised if things change and the usual backing becomes the dreaded vote of confidence following Qatar.
