Moyes was right to pass on King

Everton have confirmed Josh King will leave this summer as the club continues its search for Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement.

King was amongst five senior players who will depart when their contracts expire and save Everton more than £1m a month in wages.

King made little impact after joining on a short-term deal from Bournemouth in January and the decision not to extend his stay is no surprise.

The 29-year-old was restricted to 11 substitute appearances and failed to score in a spell affected by injury. David Moyes reportedly turned down the chance to bring him to West Ham last summer despite fever pitch speculation he was on the verge of becoming a Hammer.

King will become a free agent on 1 July but David Moyes is not thought to have any interest in the striker.

Moyes and the West Ham owners were slated by supporters for letting King slip through their fingers last summer as he joined Everton.

  1. I for one didn’t want King to become a hammer, never been overly impressed and ver injury prone. A Pele signing if ever I saw one. Well done David and GSB for turning him down.

  2. Wilson would’ve been a better buy-but for how long???
We need a young hungry strtiker preferably with Prem experience.
And NOT another ‘might do well’.

  3. King is the CLASSIC type of player that used to arrive at this club and once here, was difficult to shift and stuck on high wages. Moyes made a promise to break from this West Ham tradition, by now bringing in young hungry players, with no players arriving at this club that are no better than the players we already have here at this club.
Thanks to Moyes this club is finally heading in a new direction with a “Blueprint for the Future” going forward.

  4. Who’s the 5th one of the quintet? More shoddy journalism.

    • If all you are here for is to criticise please disappear. 15 stories a day for nothing and you believe you are entitled. Give it a rest pal

      • I’m not trolling you Hugh, I just expect accurate journalism from a premium Hammers site. And, in my experience, C+H often falls short on detail. If you don’t think I’m “entitled” to point that out, perhaps it says more about you than me.

        • U misunderstand. When people come in for the first time simply to criticise it shows more about them than me. What it tells me about me is that we do our utmost to bring you loads of news and like all, apart from you maybe, make mistakes here and there. There’sno charge of course cos people don’t wanna pay for anything. Expressions like “shoddy journalism” are not required. Simply asking the question is enough but that doesn’t appear to be your modus operandi whereas semi insults are it seems as does “it says more about you than me.” Just simply unpleasant. Ever made a mistake?

      • By the way, Hugh, if you ever go to a subscription model, count me in. I’ll be happy to pay a sensible amount for your ‘shoddy journalism’ even if some others may not be. Not exactly bad value for free, is it?

      • so thin skinned mate

        get a grip

        • I DEFEND MY PEOPLE FROM CRITICISM. Don’t like it? – no problem. – thin skin is not a bad thing by the way. Preferable to dislike dressed up as constructive comment which not only may represents a thick skin but thickness in general usually!
