Moyes West Ham Re-hire Would Mean a Steidten Sacking

The prospect of David Moyes returning to West Ham appears to be gathering momentum in the press over the past few days.

Ordinarily, I would expect such a story to wither on the vine quite quickly, but the speculation is growing for a number of reasons.

Firstly, Moyes himself is not killing the rumour. As far as I can tell, he has been asked twice in the past week if he was expecting a call from West Ham Chairman David Sullivan and has joked that anything is possible.

The biggest factor, of course, is that Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham is much further down the Premier League table than anyone expected following the summer transfer splurge. His football is not noticeably better than Moyes’s, and understandably, the former gaffer’s cronies in the media are drooling at the prospect of continually pointing it out.

The last reason is that Sullivan has form, having given the Scotsman the Hammers job twice before. However, were he to be appointed a third time, it would be a massive admission of recruitment failure and would invite ridicule.

The Kretinsky Problem

There is also an issue with Daniel Kretinsky’s appointment of West Ham director of football Tim Steidten. Any return for Moyes would mean that Steidten would have to be dismissed, given the bad blood between the pair. This would mean David Sullivan undermining Kretinsky, which he technically could do as majority shareholder, but it would cause huge issues behind the scenes.

Incredible Steidten-David Moyes and West Ham's director of football struggled to get along

Moyes struggled with Tim Steidten in place

In short, if David Moyes returns to West Ham, then Tim Steidten has to leave. There is no way that Moyes would return and work under any conditions other than him having full control of transfers and pretty much everything else football related.

My own suspicion is that Steidten won’t remain at the London Stadium long enough to establish his five-year project, but that’s very different from kicking him out now.

So, while the mainstream media might be licking their lips at the prospect of a Moyes return to a humbled West Ham, I just can’t see it

That would be it for me gonzo, this would be the club telling every single one of us that the best we can ever hope for or get under this regime is dreadfully dull football that stinks the premier league out on a weekly basis. Let’s not forget we let 74 goals in last year and in all honesty we were awful to watch

    Oh my god!
Did Moyes do a better job than what JLo has done so far? Probably yes
Is JLo doing a good job? No
Would I carry on going to watch West Ham every other week? No
I think the stadium will be half empty which won’t look good. That man is half the reason we are in such a dire situation now because so many players had to be brought in, obviously some have worked some haven’t and we have major issues up front and with the pace of our midfield which can’t be remmidied easily.
Should West Ham have got rid of Moyes? Yes
Was JLo the man for the job? No
Our chairman is looking for a scapegoat for his mistakes.
Man up and admit you were wrong Suli!

100% not on your life, we would be a laughing stock and rightly so if we rehired that dinosoar. Unbelievable to think that would even be considered especially after spending £150 million bringing in supposedly top players to take us to the next level. After supporting West Ham for over 60 years here’s another season ticket holder that would never return probably with thousands of others. How they have not got rid of this joke of a manager by now is beyond me. If it goes tits up against Newcastle and Arsenal we need to let the board know louder than we have ever done before we have had enough and bring in a replacement before we are in the bottom 3 fighting relegation. FFS just get rid and do not bring back Moyes.

    Incredulous!

  • Vince says:

He has said he wouldn’t take it, so he has killed the rumour. He said it on the overlap a couple of weeks ago.

  • Kip says:

My god how embarrassing even to be talking about it …we truly are a laughing stock ……CLOWNS

  • Ian b says:

Honestly Moyes played best winning football since I can remember and 60 and haven’t seen us do anything since early 80s. Give Moyes total control this time last year we were top 4

    • Ethan Martin says:

Moyes may have won is a trophy but he shouldn’t be immortalised if he is appointed again we might as well drop to the National League and lower

    • Ethan Martin says:

We got points away against Palace,Fulham and Brentford only conceding 2 goals in those games did Moyes get any points no is he is a great defensive manager no so this is scandalous

  • John Ayris says:

Lopetegui has to go but not for Moyes or for Fat Frank…

  • Galleywood Hammer says:

That’ll be the end of my season ticket if they bring back that dinosaur.

  • West Ham Voice says:

As you’ve already said Gonzo I can’t see West Ham going Moyes for a third time

The board more or less secretly admitted that about a week or so ago

Doubt there would be an issue with kretinsky either given that Steidten doesn’t report to him but reports and was hired by Sullivan

But I guess this is the kind of story that journos will put out there as it’s slow news week and they know it’ll cause a stir amongst the West Ham fans

  • Annette Markham says:

I understand why the supporters didn’t want Moyes anymore But I cannot understand How Steindten is still there in my mind he has done a truly terrible job it seems he throws names in the air and catches them even we could get 3 right on that basis

  • Kenny Irons says:

The fact that this is even being mentioned is an insult to every supporter.
We got rid of Moyes because of appalling football and horrendous results – that’s my lot as well if this happens and I hope thousands more follow suit.
What’s the matter with this football club ? Incompetence is rife from top to bottom.
    Sullivan is taking the ****…..

    • Kip says:

It’s ridiculous Kenny it really is….it’s time for new owners..FOR SURE …fed up with all this s@@@.we Had a good platform and then just f@@@@it all up …..laughable

  • Brendan Jordan says:

I’ve supported West Ham for over 60 years now. If David Moyes is offered the managers job again then that will be me finished with West Ham and football. Moyes tactics are out of date, dull and totally boring. We need a modern and innovating motivational coach not a narcissistic manager. COYI ⚒⚒⚒

  • Taffyhammer says:

David Moyes for six months would not cause any problems with Steidten or Kretinsky. Wee Davey would not have the opportunity to get rid or bring in in this time. And why would he? Knowing that he was being replaced at the end of the season, he would do the job he had been engaged for and not be concerned about a ‘five year plan’. He did this kind of job during his first spell with us until he was out of contract and we had our dream manager taking us over.
Rest assured – no problems here.

  • Clacton Rd Iron says:

    Not happening.
If Sully wants non league level crowds this would guarantee it.
